In Boldís Sobirà, hiking trails meet a distinctive village church: you can follow a connection between Boldís Sobirà and Boldís Jussà, head to a viewpoint overlooking the Cardós valleys, or enjoy views of two valleys on the ascent. Sant Fruitós adds an insight into the town’s architectural and artistic history to these landscape experiences.

Hiking trails with different destinations

The hiking route between Boldís Sobirà and Boldís Jussà follows the GR11 from Boldís Sobirà. It passes along traditional paths and through stretches of forest, then returns to Boldís Sobirà via a wooded section. A connection described in 2024 offers another option between the villages: the historic path can be linked with the sunny-side path, the GR11, creating a circular hike between Boldís Jussà and Boldís Sobirà.

The Mirador del bosc de Boldís is a panoramic viewpoint in the Vall de Cardós, connected with Boldís Jussà and Boldís Sobirà. The route there from Boldís Sobirà follows a forest track through a woodland of black pines and firs. From the viewpoint, the views extend across the Cardós valleys. Unlike this route, which has a named viewpoint as its destination, the ascent to Pic de Tudela from Boldís Sobirà follows the GR11 to Pla de Tudela; along the way, views open up over the Vall de Ginestarre and the Vall de Cardós.

Tavascan is also the destination of various described trails, which differ in their routes. The hiking route from Boldís Sobirà to Tavascan follows a path with views of the valley, forests and mountain meadows. It passes old bordes and then descends to Tavascan. The La Porta del Cel route, by contrast, passes through the centre of Boldís Sobirà and continues along an old path towards Tavascan. This presents two distinct perspectives on the connection to Tavascan: a trail with views and old bordes, and a route that crosses the village centre.

Sant Fruitós and the history of the town

The parish church of Sant Fruitós in Boldís Sobirà is dedicated to Saint Fructuosus. It was built in 1817 in a restrained, simple Neoclassical style. Its single-nave interior has a lunette vault over three round arches, and the chancel has a flat end. The description of the building thus combines a clear overall design with the more carefully detailed features of the vault and chancel.

The furnishings include two Baroque altarpieces from former houses in the town: one dates from 1703 and the other from 1711. The dates distinguish the two works and give the village church a specific cultural and historical connection. Written records also date back a long way: Boldís Sobirà is documented in Arnau de Prenyanosa’s will of 1136 and in the 1146 consecration charter of Sant Martí de Cardós.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Boldís Sobirà, these differences can help you choose where to stay: the trails offer connections between villages, woodland and valley views, as well as destinations such as the Mirador del bosc de Boldís or Pic de Tudela. Those especially interested in local history will find a distinctive architectural and art-historical focus in Sant Fruitós. This makes it possible to choose a destination based on the experiences you want to focus on during your stay.
