Motorcycle history, historic churches and the Rialb Reservoir offer different ways to get to know Bassella. When choosing what to see, consider the contrast between the Museu Moto Bassella and the historic sites: the museum focuses on motorcycles and their development, while La Garrola, Sant Serni de la Salsa and Castell de la Clua each offer a different glimpse of the past. Observation points at the reservoir and off-road activities complement the cultural highlights with outdoor pursuits. This can help you decide whether culture, motorcycles or experiences in the landscape matter most for your stay.
Motorcycle history at the Museu Moto Bassella
Through its emblematic models, the Museu Moto Bassella presents the history and development of the motorcycle. Its themed sections cover competition, technology, cinema and military models. The collection brings together technical aspects and cultural references, exploring motorcycles from several perspectives. The museum also offers activities for children. If you are planning a visit, bear in mind that exhibits and activities may change; check what is currently on offer in advance.
Churches and traces of history
The parish church of Mare de Déu de l’Assumpció is popularly known as La Garrola. It was remodelled in the Baroque period and appears to be of Romanesque origin. The Baroque remodelling and presumed Romanesque origins mark different historical layers of the church.
The old settlement of La Salsa lies near the former road from Ogern to Oliana. It is home to the Romanesque parish church of Sant Serni, dating from the 11th century, which has been restored several times. Near the church are anthropomorphic tombs and an oil press carved into the rock. Alongside the church building, the tombs and rock-cut oil press add burial practices and an oil-processing facility to the historical picture.
At Castell de la Clua, the focus is on its setting: the castle rises on a rocky outcrop above a pronounced bend in the Segre. Unlike the churches, with their building phases and restorations, the emphasis here is on the relationship between the castle, the rocky outcrop and the course of the river.
Rialb Reservoir: observation and off-road activities
The birdwatching centre at the Rialb Reservoir has several observation points. An accessible route around the reservoir can be walked without difficulty. Check the local path infrastructure before your trip. The observation points are geared towards birdwatching, while the path provides an option for walking in the same landscape.
Bassella Experience offers a motorised perspective, with off-road experiences on two and four wheels and exceptional views of the Rialb Reservoir. Bassella Motocross Park is different: the private race track on the baSSella experiences site is 1.6 kilometres long and homologated by the FCM. Homologation and availability may change. If the track is important to your plans, check these details in advance.
Annual festivals
Sant Isidre is celebrated in Bassella on 15 May, while the Festa Major takes place on the last Sunday in August. One offers a fixed date, while the other is tied to a Sunday in the August calendar, giving you two different points of reference in the annual calendar. If either festival is a deciding factor for your trip, check the latest dates in advance.
