Sant Ferriol offers several distinct focal points for a stay: Romanesque churches with different construction and documentation dates, the Sant Ferriol sanctuary with its panorama, routes to historic destinations and a stretch of river that is suitable for swimming in summer. This lets you plan your stay around architectural history, landscape or a route. If you are looking for hotels in Sant Ferriol, you can use these interests as a starting point for your search.

Churches and Historical Layers

Santa Maria de Fares is at the centre of Fares, near the road between Banyoles and BesalĂş. The church has been documented since 977 and has Romanesque origins. Its location in the centre of the village and its long ecclesiastical history make it easy to find your bearings here.

The Sant Ferriol sanctuary offers a different focus: it lies in the eastern part of the municipality at 366 metres above sea level, near the right bank of the FluviĂ . It has been documented since 1495 and was built in the 17th century. From there, the panorama stretches across the Alta Garrotxa and the Pyrenees; on a clear day, it also reaches as far as the Bay of Roses. Its elevation and the distant view, which depends on clear conditions, give this place a different character from the church in the centre of Fares.

The church of Sant Fruitós was first documented in 977; the present building dates from the 12th century. Historically, it was known as “Sancti Fructuosi de Ursiniano”. It is a single-nave Romanesque church with a semicircular apse to the east; it was remodelled in the 17th and 18th centuries. This makes it possible to consider its Romanesque layout alongside later structural changes.

Routes with Different Focal Points

The route to La Miana starts in the settlement of Sant Ferriol, in front of the town hall, at the ItinerĂ nnia junction SF1. It leads to the church of Sant Miquel, the rectory and the remains of the old castle in La Miana. These named destinations give the route a clear cultural and historical focus.

The short health route starts next to Sant Ferriol town hall and passes through a mosaic of cultivated land and holm oak forests. It is short and easy, with only minor elevation changes. In contrast to the route to La Miana, the focus here is on the landscape and the route’s characteristics. The long health route, however, does not follow the Itinerànnia trail network: follow the markings for the health routes of the Girona Provincial Council.
