Lladó can be explored through two distinct travel interests: medieval architecture and mountain biking. The monastery of Santa Maria and the church of Sant Feliu represent historical architecture; an exhibition is dedicated to the artist Moisès Sidrach. The MTB routes offer a different focus: from forests and fields to Romanesque hermitages and a long, challenging route with considerable elevation gain. You can decide first whether culture, art, or a particular type of cycling route should shape your stay.

Monastery history and Sant Feliu

On 18 September 2018, the monastery of Santa Maria de Lladó was designated a Cultural Asset of National Interest in the category of historic monument. The monumental complex is considered one of the most significant examples of medieval architecture in Catalonia. The designation and the architectural assessment offer different points of reference: the former identifies its monument status, while the latter places the importance of the building complex in a Catalan context. Sant Feliu de Lladó adds its own timeline to this focus. The church was first documented in 1017; the present building was constructed in the 18th century by Prior Tomàs Verdaguer. The year 1017 therefore marks its first documented mention, not the construction of the present building. Sant Feliu was closed for services in August 2026. Check visiting options before travelling if the church is part of your plans.

Art and performing arts

Part of the estate of Moisès Sidrach, who was born in Lladó, can be seen at the Sala d’exposicions Sidrach. He worked as a sculptor, painter, and draughtsman. The Teatre Sindicat de Lladó offers another way to experience local culture, with a programme that includes concerts and theatre performances. If you are interested in a particular performance, check the dates for your travel period.

Three MTB routes with different highlights

The MTB routes differ in their stated demands and landscapes. Ruta BTT 28: Bassegoda starts in Lladó and leads from the Empordà plain to La Garrotxa. It is challenging, takes a long time, and has considerable elevation changes. This combination makes it a major undertaking; allow enough time and attention for it when planning. Ruta BTT 26: L’ermita de l’Estela follows paths through forests and fields. Along Ruta BTT 27: Sant Martí Sesserres, you will find several Romanesque hermitages. You can choose based on three features: the scenery on Route 26, the Romanesque hermitages on Route 27, or the duration, difficulty, and elevation gain on Route 28.

Cheese tasting in the 2026 programme

The programme for the 2026 edition of the Fira Catalana del Formatge Artesà de Lladó includes a hands-on cheese tasting. If you are planning a visit around the tasting, check the event date and the programme details for that edition.
