Campdevànol can be explored through a wide range of themes: waterside trails, churches and modernist architecture, as well as local dance and festive traditions. The route descriptions also focus on different things—from the stream and its pools to a walking trail along the Freser with clearly named starting and ending points.

Waterside Trails and the Freser Valley

The route to Torrent de la Cabana follows the Estiula stream, also known as Torrent de la Cabana or Ruta dels 7 Gorgs. It includes seven named pools: Gorg de la Cabana, Gorg de la Tosca, Gorg de l’Olla, Gorg de la Bauma, Gorg del forat, Gorg petit del Colomer and Gorg gran del Colomer. The names give the waterside route a clear sequence of places, but do not indicate a walking time or level of difficulty.

A day pass must be booked in advance for each person visiting Torrent de la Cabana; check the seasonal requirements before your trip. Access information in effect in August 2026 directed visitors via the Font del Querol information point, as access via Camí Ral was impassable at the time. Check which access details are currently in effect before your visit.

The Camí ral ramader starts in Campdevànol and can be explored on foot or by bicycle. One route leads to natural viewpoints over the Freser Valley and connects four churches in Campdevànol. Another route description follows the Freser downstream: the walking trail starts at Plaça de la Dansa and ends at Font del Tòtil. There you’ll find a large covered area and a children’s playground with a grassy area. The described options therefore differ in how you can get around, their viewpoints and the specifically named riverside destination.

Mills, Churches and Architectural History

Molí Gros, also known as Molí de Baix de Campdevànol, is a grain mill dating from the mid-17th century. It was powered by water using a vertical waterwheel. The Hospital de Campdevànol offers a different architectural highlight: it is a Modernist building designed by Joan Rubió i Bellver, a student of Gaudí, and is listed in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia.

The different dates associated with the churches reflect distinct layers of construction and history. Sant Llorenç has been recorded in the parish register of the Diocese of Vic since 1075; only the bell tower and parts of the walls remain of the original Romanesque church. Sant Pere d’Aüira has been known since 1150, was rebuilt in the early 13th century and was consecrated on June 6, 1235, by Bishop Bernat Calvó of Vic. The church of Sant Cristòfol dates from 1718. A bridge also points to the area’s earlier history: its Romanesque section dates from the 11th century, and it was part of the former royal road from Ripoll to Cerdanya.

The Xalet Fossas is also part of the Modernist heritage and is listed in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia. Together with the hospital, it makes architecture a distinct highlight alongside the older churches and the mill.

Festive Traditions, Art and Local Experiences

La Gala represents ancient ceremonial dances and was recognized in 2014 as an “Element Festiu Patrimonial d’Interès Nacional” (National Heritage Festive Element). It is the main event of the Festa Major del Roser and is performed on the third Sunday in September. If you’re planning your trip around this date, check the latest program details. The Festa de la Sardana has been celebrated in Campdevànol for more than 50 years and takes place on May 1.

The Coll Bardolet art gallery has 200 works reflecting the entire artistic career of the painter, who was born in Campdevànol. The Centre PYRFER offers another way to explore local themes: it is the starting point of the ten-stop Ruta del Ferro i l’Aigua de Campdevànol. The family rally “Water, Iron and Gold” also starts there, with its first riddle. The stated starting point is the Centre PYRFER at Molí Gros, Carrer Major 9B, 17530 Campdevànol, Girona.
