Ripollet brings together a river landscape and industrial heritage in a distinctive way: the River Ripoll once powered a mill and today runs alongside a signposted circular trail. There are also parks, archaeological remains and a varied cultural programme. Which of these aspects you focus on during your stay can help guide your search for a suitable hotel in Ripollet.
River landscapes and circular trails in Ripollet
The Ripoll and Sec rivers form the municipality’s largest and most important ecological system. They also serve as an important ecological corridor. The river ecosystem covers approximately eight percent of Ripollet’s area—a notable proportion for a municipality whose natural surroundings are easy to explore via individual paths and parks.
The Anella Verda is a 6.94-kilometre circular trail that starts and ends at the Poliesportiu Municipal. One section runs alongside the Ripoll; the route also connects to Parc dels Pinetons. Signage along the entire route provides distances and elevation changes, points out connections to other circular trails and marks heritage sites. When planning, you can therefore take into account not only the distance but also the stated elevation changes. The length of the route alone does not determine how long it takes to walk or how difficult it is.
Parc dels Pinetons has a more natural area that reflects the nearby landscape. A prehistoric settlement was discovered beneath the park. It dates to the transition from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age, around 1100 to 800 BC, and comprised approximately 90 huts. The date is also given as around 800 to 1,100 BC. Those interested in the area’s history can experience the landscape here in a different way than on the circular trail.
Mills, parks and local history
Molà d’en Rata is a former hydraulic grain mill that was restored in 2005. It used the River Ripoll as its source of power. CIP Molà d’en Rata presents Ripollet’s heritage through exhibitions, tours, guided visits and other activities. The programme offers several ways to explore the municipality’s history; every year, the CIP also takes part in the European Heritage Days.
Other sites also preserve traces of the industrial past. Parc de la Xemeneia stands on the former site of the facilities of the Can Buxó mill. A brick chimney that is still visible gives the park its name. At Parc d’Anselm Clavé, the Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis) is the dominant tree species, with 18 specimens. A mural in Ripollet is dedicated to Josep Anselm Clavé and commemorates his cultural and choral legacy. Clavé was a Catalan politician, composer and writer; he founded the Catalan choral movement and promoted the associational movement.
Casa Natura is located between Parc dels Pinetons and the road to Santiga, next to Torrent Tortuguer. Activities there take place mainly outdoors. At Parc dels Pinetons, meanwhile, Jugatecambiental explores sustainable mobility through activities involving scooters, roller skates and bicycles. When choosing your outings, it is worth keeping these different focuses in mind without combining them into a single programme.
Culture and festivals throughout the year
Alongside its industrial and natural history, Ripollet offers several cultural attractions. Espai Maria Aurèlia Capmany is an open-air cultural and reading space in the courtyard of the town hall, next to the municipal library. At Teatre Auditori del Mercat Vell, a children’s programme of theatre, music and dance runs regularly from October to May. Performances take place on the first Sunday afternoon of each month. If you would like to plan your visit around one, check the dates for your travel year.
For Corpus Christi, floral designs decorate the streets of the old town. The flower carpets are made by residents, schools and local associations. The festival is recognised as an event of tourist interest; check the dates for the relevant year before your trip. Festa de Sant Antoni Abat is also recognised as an event of local tourist interest and is one of the municipality’s oldest celebrations. It was held for the 131st time.
Ripollet offers a range of themes to explore, without requiring you to follow a fixed sightseeing programme.
