Five signposted walking routes explore the area around L'Ametlla del Vallès and introduce visitors to the town's history. There is also a cultural heritage centre in a restored former chapel, an online postcard museum and buildings with varied historical stories. You can tailor your stay to your interests: local history, architecture, landscape or the historical themes of the routes.

Walking Routes and Historical Perspectives

The five marked walking routes offer a starting point if you want to explore the area while learning more about the town's history. What they have in common is the connection between landscape and local history, although their specific historical themes differ. At Serrat de l'Ocata and the Ermita de Sant Bartomeu de Montràs, a visit offers a sense of what life was like in the mid-mountain areas before the extensive urbanisation of today.

One route leads to the most important farmhouses in L'Ametlla del Vallès and explores the history of agriculture, which has had a particularly strong influence on the area. Another historical focus is the circumstances of the many refugees from the Spanish Civil War who found shelter in local farmhouses. Together, these themes offer different ways of exploring the past: life in the mid-mountain areas, agriculture and refuge during the Civil War.

Culture, Collections and Local History

The Centre d’Interpretació del Territori de l’Ametlla del Vallès (CITA) promotes knowledge and appreciation of the town's history, culture, traditions and historical memory, as well as its flora and fauna. It is located in the restored former chapel of Can Camp, connecting the centre with a historic building.

Another perspective is offered by the Museu de la Carta postal de l’Estat de l’Ametlla del Vallès, which is accessible online and contains more than 7,000 postcards from the Cercle Cartòfil de Catalunya. The collection is a distinct cultural attraction alongside the CITA's broader themes. If you are interested in postcards, you can explore this part of what the town has to offer online.

Buildings and Their Former Functions

Cal Barber, also known as casa Jaume Alern, was architect Joaquim Raspall i Mayol's first work in L'Ametlla del Vallès, in 1904. Jaume Alerm i Monrós commissioned the house to serve as a barbershop. The Art Nouveau stained-glass windows bear the house's name. The year it was built, its commissioner and its intended use bring the building's history to life; the window motif adds an architectural detail.

The focus of the Ajuntament i escoles complex is its original public function: the central part of the building housed the municipal administration, while the two side wings contained separate public schools for boys and girls. Unlike Cal Barber, whose story is tied to a specific commission and a barbershop, this complex illustrates another historical dimension: the way administration and schooling were divided within a single group of buildings at the time.

Festa Major and Getting There

The official programme for the 2026 Festa Major listed traditional and popular events such as the pregó, the Topaeta, the Corretapes, the correfoc, the Homenatge a la Vellesa and the Mass in honour of the patron saints. The specific dates and events depend on the festival in question. If you want to plan your trip around a particular celebration, check the event dates in advance.

Sagalés route 348 provides local bus service between L'Ametlla del Vallès and Granollers. Check the current timetable before travelling. This lets you include the connection in your travel plans without assuming a journey time or a particular connection.
