Three waterfalls along the Riera de Castellolí, labyrinthine caves and castle ruins give Castellolí several different points of interest for a stay. Nature, archaeological traces and routes through the municipality can each be explored as distinct themes.

Nature and early traces

Els Pèlags is a small natural area along the Riera de Castellolí with three waterfalls. Its ecological and geological value is reflected in its diverse habitats: rocky and wooded areas meet agricultural land and water-based habitats. Visitors interested in the landscape will find a different perspective here than in the caves of Can Llucià.

The Coves de Can Llucià lie in Eocene limestone. Their labyrinthine layout includes several galleries; the entire route is approximately 450 metres long. Human history here also goes back a long way: pottery finds from the caves document habitation during the Early Epicardial Neolithic, from 4200 to 3800 BC. Geological formations and traces of early settlement thus offer two different aspects of the same place.

Castle and church architecture

Castell de Castellolí has been documented since at least the mid-10th century. The structure is built into the rock on two levels. The upper level contains a tower and several building sections, including a large cistern. The Romanesque church of Sant Vicenç is in the lower section. Its façade features buttresses, pilaster strips and Lombard bands of arches.

Another historic building is the Església Vella de Sant Vicenç, the ruin of an 18th-century Baroque church. Its single-nave layout is complemented by a transept; the bell tower has a square floor plan. The church therefore offers a different architectural perspective from the Romanesque structures in the lower section of Castell de Castellolí.

Trails and pilgrimage routes

The Camí Ignasià and the Camí de Sant Jaume follow the same route through Castellolí. The Igualada–Montserrat stage of the Camí Ignasià passes through Castellolí and is approximately 27 kilometres long. A shorter option, described with a walking time, is the blue Itinerari Blau, Cal Tardà circular route: it is about 4.8 kilometres long and takes approximately three hours on foot. At about 4.8 kilometres, the blue circular route is considerably shorter than the approximately 27-kilometre Igualada–Montserrat stage; it takes around three hours on foot.

One route through the municipality leads to the Coves de Can Llucià and the Font del Ferro. The ruins of Castellolí are also part of the Ruta dels Castells de Frontera de l’Anoia, which can be travelled by car or mountain bike. The ruins of Castell d’Aulí, dating from the 10th to 12th centuries, are also included on this route. For travel planning, it helps to distinguish these route connections: the Camí Ignasià and the Camí de Sant Jaume share a route, while the castle ruins belong to the Castells route.

Festivals and local themes

The Festa Major d’hivern, also known as the Festa de Sant Vicenç, takes place annually around 22 January. Depending on the edition, the programme may include a solemn Mass, talks and concerts, as well as a scavenger hunt, a cooking competition, sports activities, children’s shows and theatre. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates and programme for the relevant edition.

In 2025, the Ratafira programme included a workshop on making homemade ratafia. This gives a stay a different cultural focus from the historic buildings and trails. A workshop on making homemade ratafia was part of the 2025 Ratafira programme; individual programme items may change from one edition to another.

More activities and travel planning

Sports offerings also differ considerably from cultural and walking themes. The off-road area of Kini MotorPark has a 1,600-metre track for free practice and riding. Track sessions may be available through an organiser; they depend on the promoters scheduled. If you want such a session to be a highlight of your visit, check the specific dates in advance.

For choosing your travel dates, there are several options to consider: the annual Festa Major d’hivern around 22 January, one of the routes described here, or a date scheduled by organisers for the race track. If you are looking for a hotel in Castellolí for one of these activities, you can plan your travel dates around the occasion.
