Caldes d'Estrac brings together a thermal tradition, historic buildings and coastline, along with cultural and scenic experiences. To decide whether to visit, it is worth first considering the themes that interest you most: thermal waters, art and architectural history, or parks and beaches. This will help you assess whether the town matches the priorities for your planned days.

Thermal Waters and Culture

The current building housing the Caldes d'Estrac thermal baths dates from 1818 and is publicly owned. The thermal water emerges at 37.9 to 38.8°C and is classified as mesothermal, moderately mineralised and hypotonic. The town's thermal tradition therefore has both an architectural and a natural dimension.

Fundació Palau opened as a cultural institution in May 2003, to make the collection of paintings and sculptures belonging to Josep Palau i Fabre, as well as his private library, publicly accessible and available for viewing. It houses around fifty works of Catalan painting by artists from various generations of the 20th century. Works by Picasso are displayed on the second floor. If you are especially interested in seeing this display, check the current exhibition arrangements in advance, as they may change.

Historic Centre and Architectural History

Carrer Major and Plaça de Sant Antoni, formerly Plaça de la Constitució, make up the oldest part of the historic centre. At the end of Carrer Major, at the junction with Carretera de Sant Vicenç, you can see a partially preserved circular lime kiln. It dates from the 17th century and was decommissioned during that period. Its inner diameter is 3.40 metres and its height is 4.50 metres.

Two towers add historical traces with different dates and functions. Torre de Can Busquets is first mentioned in historical records on 25 February 1586; an olive tree stands on its crenellated summit. Torre Verda, also known as Torre de la Guàrdia, is a round defensive tower from the early modern period. It was built in the early 16th century to protect the Maresme coast from raids by Saracen pirates.

By the sea, Passeig dels Anglesos is lined with houses featuring Mediterranean, neoclassical and Noucentista elements.

Parks, Beach and Activities

Parc Muntanyà has a pergola with sea views where cultural and social events are held; the programme varies. A guided route through the park offers insights into its vegetation and extent, as well as views of Caldes d'Estrac and the surrounding area. Since the availability of guided routes may change, check locally whether one is running during your visit.

Parc Joan Maragall adds another cultural dimension: it is dedicated to the poet Joan Maragall and contains a restored bust in his memory. The townscape thus features two distinct park-related attractions alongside its buildings and coastal architecture: a scenic route in Parc Muntanyà and a memorial to the poet in Parc Joan Maragall.

Playa dels Tres Micos has received the Blue Flag every year since 2009. During the summer season, amphibious chairs are available at the Red Cross station to help people with reduced mobility who need assistance getting into and out of the water. If you plan to use this assistance, check its availability for your visit dates and the applicable reservation procedure in advance.

On the coast of Caldes d'Estrac, the Associació de Pescadors, Afeccionats i Usuaris de la Varada d'Embarcacions organises sailing, paddle-surfing and windsurfing courses. Courses and providers may vary seasonally, so the key factor when planning is what is actually available during your travel dates.

Plan Your Festival and Journey

Caldes d'Estrac's Festa Major is associated with the feast day of its patron saint, the Verge del Remei, on 8 September. It includes several events, among them a Correfoc through part of the town. Dates, route and programme may vary from year to year, so check the details for the year of your visit.

Caldes d'Estrac can be reached via the C-32 motorway and by train on the R1 Rodalies line. When planning your journey, check the latest timetables and connections.
