Borleña can be explored through several specific nature themes: the Churrón waterfall, the Arroyo La Llana and panoramic views of the Valle de Toranzo. The hiking routes offer different highlights, from a stretch running parallel to the stream to views after a denser section of forest. The access points are also clearly identified: two routes begin at the car park next to Parque de Borleña.

Hiking from Borleña

The Ruta Churrón de Borleña starts in Borleña at the car park next to Parque de Borleña. You can leave your vehicle there and set off on foot. Access to the Ruta Churrón is at the junction with the N-623 by the village centre. The car park and the junction serve different purposes for navigation: the walk starts at the car park, while the road junction marks the route’s access point. The Ruta La Piedrona de Villegar also starts at the car park next to the park. This makes the car park a shared starting point for both routes, although they offer different landscape impressions.

Along the Arroyo La Llana and at the Churrón Waterfall

The Senda Fluvial Arroyo de la Llana passes through Borleña and then runs parallel to the Arroyo La Llana. It ends at the Churrón de Borleña waterfall. The village, the course of the stream and the waterfall form a clear sequence of landmarks. Tufa formations can be seen at the waterfall. They add a geological dimension to the destination: when you reach the Churrón, you can take in these formations as well as the waterfall itself.

A forest section and panoramic valley views

On the Ruta La Piedrona de Villegar, an exceptional panoramic view of the Valle de Toranzo opens up after the denser forest. The landscape shifts from a wooded section to wide-ranging views over the valley. Unlike the waterfall at the end of the Senda Fluvial, the focus here is on the transition to the panorama. This gives you two clear themes to choose between: the stream and waterfall on the one hand, and the transition from forest to valley views on the other.

Habitats and nature conservation

The Ruta Churrón de Borleña passes through two habitats of community interest. These habitats are included in the European Union’s Habitats Directive and formed the basis for designating the Natura 2000 network. The riparian forest along the Arroyo La Llana is considered to be in optimal conservation status. So Borleña’s natural features include specific habitats as well as waterfalls and views. The links between local habitats, the Habitats Directive and Natura 2000 offer an ecological perspective on the landscape.

Bolo Palma: the 2026 event

The Bolo Palma competition Mem. Gabriel Sainz was scheduled to take place in La Riguera, Borleña, in 2026. The matches were set for 9, 10, 13 and 14 July, with the final on 26 July. The schedule included four days of matches and a later final, rather than a single event day. This clearly dated sporting event adds another point of interest to the village’s nature themes.
