The natural seawater pools, the seafront promenade and Playa del Castillo showcase different sides of Bajamar’s coast. The PR TF 12 also runs through the Anaga Mountains trail network from Cruz del Carmen to Bajamar. This gives you options to weigh up for your stay, from swimming and coastal walks to hiking routes and local history.
Seawater pools and coastal walks
The natural seawater pool complex consists of two large pools and a small children’s pool. You can swim there in seawater. Access is free all year round, and the pools have been awarded Blue Flag status. Ramps and handrails make access easier for older people and people with reduced mobility. If you include the seawater pools as a swimming destination in your plans, pool size and accessibility features are practical aspects to consider.
Bajamar’s seafront promenade is an accessible route that runs along the coast. At Playa del Castillo, a seawall protects the beach from the strong winter surf of the northern sea. Charco Marianes is one of the natural rock pools along Bajamar’s coastal path; local residents have traditionally used these pools. When choosing a coastal focus, you can distinguish between swimming in the seawater pools, an accessible path and a beach protected from winter surf by the seawall.
Hiking route and return journey
The Anaga Mountains trail network includes the PR TF 12 from Cruz del Carmen to Bajamar. Bus route 105 is listed for the return journey from Bajamar to the La Laguna interchange. Check the current timetable before planning, as routes and services may change. The destination at Bajamar and the listed bus route make the return journey a separate part of your hiking plans.
Local character and history
Bajamar comprises an urban area and a small rural area. The latter lies partly within the protected Parque Rural de Anaga. For nature enthusiasts, this rural setting adds a distinct landscape focus to the coastal attractions.
The Ermita de San Juan Bautista dates from 1628 and is part of a historic estate of some significance to Bajamar. The Ermita del Gran Poder de Dios de Bajamar was built in 1881 by Don JosĂ© DomĂnguez Romero and his wife, and is located within the town of Bajamar. The two hermitages offer different points of historical interest: San Juan Bautista is associated with the estate and the year 1628, while Gran Poder de Dios is associated with its construction in 1881 and its builders.
Canarian cuisine
Restaurants around Bajamar serve typical Canarian dishes made with consistently fresh seafood. If cuisine influences your choice of destination, this adds a culinary focus to the natural and historical attractions.
