San Isidro can be understood through three clearly distinct themes: the building history of the Ermita de San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint’s Romería and the Montañas de Ifara y Los Riscos Natural Monument east of the hamlet. Día de las Tradiciones adds a specific event programme from 2025 to this picture.
Landscape and Location
The “Monumento Natural de Montañas de Ifara y Los Riscos” Natural Monument lies east of the hamlet of San Isidro, next to the TF-1 motorway. It complements the cultural and historical themes with a clearly situated perspective on the landscape. In San Isidro, different interests therefore sit side by side: understanding a natural monument, the history of a chapel and the patron saint celebrations.
The Ermita: Construction Period and Floor Plan
The Ermita de San Isidro Labrador was built in the second half of the 17th century. It is a single-nave chapel; its choir faces east, and a sacristy is attached to its south side. “Single-nave” describes a space with one main nave. The details about the choir and sacristy additionally describe their orientation and position within the building.
The construction period and floor plan answer different questions: the date places the Ermita in its historical context, while its architectural description reveals the spatial layout. Anyone interested in the cultural history of San Isidro will find more than a year in these details: the building’s form and the arrangement of its parts provide a concrete way to explore the chapel’s history, without needing a long list of individual details.
Romería and Día de las Tradiciones
San Isidro’s traditional Romería honours San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza. It is part of the patron saint celebrations; the exact date varies from year to year. If you would like to plan your stay around this tradition, check the date for the relevant year.
Día de las Tradiciones was held in 2023 and 2025 at Plaza de la Cultura in San Isidro as part of the celebrations in honour of San Isidro Labrador. The 2025 edition included a craft fair featuring handmade pastries, honey, products made from recycled materials, basketry, blacksmithing, zurrones, crochet, toys, pyrography and handmade sweets. The offerings therefore ranged from food to a variety of handmade goods and crafts.
The programme also included a culinary workshop on typical products, which focused on potatoes in this edition. The fair and workshop had different emphases: while the fair brought together many products and craft areas, the workshop focused on a single food. The festival programme can therefore be understood both through its variety and through one specific theme.
Public Spaces Available on Request
The Centro Multifuncional San Isidro Espacio Cívico (SIEC) has three training rooms and an auditorium. These spaces are available to the public on request. If you are planning to use one, submitting a request is therefore part of your preparations. This is a different planning consideration from the Romería: there, the date for the relevant year matters; at the SIEC, use is by request.
