Chamorga is a destination for travelers who want to combine hiking with a closer look at the landscape and village character. Numerous hiking trails converge in the village; Chamorga is also one of the settlements in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife that lie within Anaga Rural Park. The information available about the trails, bus connections and local festivals can help you plan your trip. This way, you can decide whether to focus on a particular hike or on combining nature and culture during your stay.

Landscape and village character

Chamorga preserves a landscape of cultivated plots and traditional architecture. The surrounding area is home to well-preserved Monteverde forests, juniper groves and dragon tree communities. This gives the village two distinct aspects: cultivated land and traditional buildings shape the landscape, while the surrounding forests and woodland offer a different perspective. For those interested in nature and cultural heritage, this provides a thematic framework that encompasses both the village character and hiking plans.

Hiking trails and timing

Numerous hiking trails converge in Chamorga. The linear PR-TF 5 from Chamorga to Igueste de San Andrés provides a clear time frame: it is 10.3 kilometers long, has a moderate difficulty level and takes five hours. Along the way, the trail passes through Monteverde and crosses the ridges and headwaters of the Anosma and Ijuana ravines. The distance, endpoint and duration give you concrete information for planning your day. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

A self-guided hiking trail, “Chamorga–Casas de Tafada,” is available in Spanish, English and German. If you plan to use printed materials, check their current availability before your trip. This lets you plan for this trail separately from the five-hour PR-TF-5 route, without treating the two trails as one combined route.

Getting there on route 947

TITSA route 947 connects the Santa Cruz interchange with Chamorga via San Andrés, El Bailadero, Anaga Rural Park, Lomo Bodegas and La Cumbrilla. The bus connection is also relevant for the PR TF 06 El Draguillo–Chamorga–Faro de Anaga hiking trail: you can travel from Santa Cruz to Chamorga and return from Chamorga to the Santa Cruz interchange on route 947. Check the timetable and route before your trip so you can plan your outward and return journeys accordingly.

Festivals and cultural events

Festivals in honor of the Virgen del Carmen are celebrated in Chamorga. If you want to plan your trip around one of the festivals, check the date and program in advance, before arranging your stay. This lets you include the festival as a cultural highlight alongside hikes and explorations of the landscape. You can experience the village in different ways: by following a particular trail, taking in the traditional architecture or staying during a cultural event.
