From a viewpoint near the church of Es Cubells, the view stretches across the coast to the island of Formentera on the horizon. There are also pebble beaches and coves, as well as the trail to Cala Llentrisca. Access and the time required vary considerably: Cala Es Cubells can be reached by walking downhill, while the round-trip hike to Cala Llentrisca takes about four hours.

Church Views and Local History

The history of the church of Es Cubells dates back to 1855. At that time, the exclaustrated Carmelite Francesc Palau i Quer settled in the parish and applied to Rome for permission to establish a public oratory. The church was provisionally made a parish church in 1933 and officially became a parish in 1940; it was completed in 1958. Despite being young compared with other churches in Ibiza, it preserves the island’s traditional aesthetic. You can take in a coastal view and a piece of local history at the same landmark.

A coastal defense tower, probably dating from the 17th century, stands on Puig des Savinar. It adds another historical dimension alongside the church: the focus here is not another chapter in the same church history, but a structure connected to coastal defense.

Coastal Destinations and Different Ways to Get There

Cala Es Cubells is a pebble beach beneath the cliffs in southern Ibiza, shaped by the erosion caused by the sea and wind. From Es Cubells, leave the small town center and descend along a winding path; the beach is reached on foot via a dirt track. Cala Es Cubells is also suitable for diving over a rocky seabed, without having to venture far from the coast.

Ses Boques is a pebble cove with crystal-clear water, surrounded by pine-covered cliffs. From Es Cubells, reach the cove via the road to the left of the church. There, you can sunbathe, dive and eat right on the beach. Conditions on the routes to Cala Es Cubells and Ses Boques can change; check the current trail or road conditions before setting out.

Cala Llentrisca offers something different: its clear water and rocky seabed are suitable for snorkeling, and it also has traditional fishermen’s huts for boats. The kayak route from Ses Boques to Cala Carbó goes into Cala Llentrisca, where there is a small fishing harbor with several boat huts. Access to this harbor by land is difficult. This makes the cove and its boat huts different both from the beach descriptions of Ses Boques and from the approach via the hiking trail.

Hike to Cala Llentrisca

The trail from Es Cubells to Cala Llentrisca starts at the church square, passes Cueva de la Fuente and Ses Boques, and continues to the cove. The route is nine kilometers long, rated moderate to challenging, and takes about four hours round trip. It then heads west along a roughly 700-meter footpath at the edge of the cliffs. The route description brings together the starting point in town, named stops along the way and the coastal destination in a clearly defined hike. Check trail conditions and signage before setting out.

First decide whether a longer hike or the coastal coves will be the focus of your stay.

Fiestas del Carmen

The Fiestas del Carmen are deeply rooted in Es Cubells and closely connected to the sea and the town’s identity. From July 10 to 19, they include cultural, musical, sporting and traditional activities. The individual programs vary from year to year. If you plan your trip around this period, check that year’s program.
