Cala Llenya combines a sandy cove with pine groves and a stretch of coastline bordered by cliffs. It also offers water sports and a path to the nearby beach of Cala Nova. For a seaside stay, you can choose between time at the beach, activities on the water and another beach destination.
Beach and Coastal Scenery
Cala Llenya is a sandy cove surrounded by pine groves. The beach has fine sand and is about 200 metres long and 60 metres wide. The cove lies on a stretch of coastline bordered by cliffs. This distinction matters when planning your trip: the measurements refer to the beach itself, while the cliffs border the stretch of coastline.
Marine Environment and History
For the 2019 to 2022 seasons, Cala Llenya was classified as a natural beach; the surrounding area is characterised by Mediterranean woodland. The entire marine area of the beach lies within the bird protection area ES0000517 “Espacio marino del levante de Ibiza”. In the central part of the cove, there was a seagrass meadow of Cymodocea nodosa during the 2019 to 2022 seasons. The seagrass meadow forms part of the cove’s ecological context; its condition may change.
The name also refers to the area’s former use: Cala Llenya alludes to abundant pine forests that were once used to obtain firewood. Old landing stages used by local fishermen in the past stand on both sides of the beach. These are two distinct chapters in the area’s history: the use of the forests and the former fishing activity along the coast.
Water Sports and Beach Services
Water sports available at Cala Llenya include windsurfing, kitesurfing, stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking. Windsurfing and kitesurfing are wind-based activities, while stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking rely on paddling.
Beach services include parasol and sun lounger hire, water sports equipment hire, toilets, showers and a telephone. Services may vary seasonally; check what is available before your trip.
Getting Around and Planning Your Trip
A path behind Cala Llenya leads to the nearby beach of Cala Nova. If you would like to include another beach in your stay, you can add Cala Nova as a separate destination to your plans. This gives you a second beach option alongside the cove.
The Cala Llenya bus stop is marked with the number 6057. Timetables can change, so check the current schedule when planning a bus trip.
If you are looking for hotels in Cala Llenya, first consider whether you want to focus on the beach, water sports or the path to Cala Nova.
