Santa Eulalia De Oscos can be explored through two very different themes: crafts ranging from ironwork to natural textile fibres, and routes with their own cultural connections. In Mazonovo, the fully restored and renovated Conjunto Etnográfico de Mazonovo explains the iron industry. The forge was centred around hydraulic equipment, including the hammer, known in Spanish as a “mazo”, and the large bellows, or “barquines”; there was also a furnace. These terms refer not only to individual tools, but also to two areas that are important for understanding the complex.

From the forge to the textile workshop

Another perspective on history leads to the Casa Natal del Marqués de Sargadelos. The exhibition space is dedicated to the life and work of Antonio Raimundo Ibáñez, the Marqués de Sargadelos, and is housed in a restored 18th-century home. In Barcia stands the Casa de Aquel Cabo, built in 1762. Together, these places offer different historical points of reference without needing to be linked into a single tour.

You can also encounter crafts at El Telar de Irene, where natural materials such as wool, silk, cotton and linen are used. A free visit to the exhibition and workshop is possible by appointment; confirm your appointment before visiting. The programme at the Casa Natal del Marqués de Sargadelos includes workshops and hands-on experiences related to traditional occupations, crafts and locally connected products. It is aimed at all age groups from six years old. The programme may change.

Routes with different focuses

The Ruta del Forcón de los Ríos runs through the Río Eo, Oscos e Terras do Burón Biosphere Reserve and leads to the historic site of A Valía. This place is described as the birthplace of watchmakers and the inventor Lombardia. Landscape and cultural history come together along this route. The Ruta de A Seimeira follows a different trail, passing abandoned buildings in A Ancadeira. Those who choose routes based on their specific themes will find a clear contrast here between a historic site and the buildings of an abandoned hamlet.

The Ruta da Mina das Talladas starts in the square in Santa Eulalia De Oscos. Check the starting point locally before setting out. To learn more about local crafts, you can also visit an apiary, where you can discover how bees live and work and how honey, pollen, propolis and royal jelly are produced. Confirm that visits are available before booking.

Swimming spots and local events

The swimming spots also differ in how they are described. Ponte de A Coba is considered a suitable swimming spot along the Ruta de A Coba. The Área Recreativa de Ferreira is by the Agüeira River and offers a natural swimming area; seasonal conditions of use may vary. These two places give you specific options if you would like to add a swimming spot to your explorations.

Local events add further highlights throughout the year: the Feria de Artesanía y Productos Agroalimentarios takes place every year on Good Friday in Santa Eulalia De Oscos. The Encuentro de Ferreiros is held every two years. Check the dates before your trip if you would like to plan around one of these events. For initial information locally, the Oficina de Turismo de Santa Eulalia de Oscos is located in the town park.

Getting there and finding your way

By road, the route from the A-8 goes via Vegadeo to Santa Eulalia De Oscos. The AS-13 and AS-21 roads connect the region with the town, among other places. Check road conditions and signage before setting off. This will help you plan your journey and decide whether to make the blacksmithing history, one of the routes or one of the swimming spots the focus of your stay.
