Urbiés lies in the upper Turón Valley. Two different themes can guide your trip planning: panoramic views from the Cordal de Urbiés, or historical and ethnographic traces along the Camín Real and in La Yana´l Pumar. You can plan your stay around whether you’re most interested in discovering the landscape or the cultural heritage.

Landscape and trails around Urbiés

The Cuencas Mineras Protected Landscape includes the Navaliego and Longalendo mountain ranges, as well as the Cordal de Urbiés in the Turón Valley. The Cordal de Urbiés P.R. AS-34 route crosses the Recerezal stream and reaches Urbiés via the hamlet of El Corraldusu. It also reaches La Campa Les Abeyes, the highest point of the ridge. Panoramic views can be enjoyed from there.

The Cordal de Urbiés therefore offers a landscape-focused experience: the route crosses a named stream and hamlet before reaching a viewpoint at the highest point of the ridge. If you’re particularly interested in mountain scenery and views when planning your trip, the route offers a specific option.

Camín Real and historical traces

The Camín Real de Urbiés is publicly owned and open to visitors. Along its route are Roman place names such as Urbiés and Valeriana, as well as medieval stone-slab tombs in San Xusto and Santandrés. The best section is considered to be the link between El L.leu in Urbiés, L’Artusu in Turón and San Xusto. Unlike the Cordal, with its panoramic views, the focus here is on place names and archaeological traces.

The Puente de Pomar adds another chapter to this architectural history. The bridge was originally intended for a railway line and is now part of a footpath. Its side passage has been renovated, and a section of track with mining carts has been installed on the bridge deck. This describes both the bridge’s original planned use and how it is used today.

La Yana´l Pumar Ethnographic Ensemble

La Yana´l Pumar is considered probably the valley’s most significant ethnographic hamlet and can be reached via the P.R. AS-350 route. The ensemble comprises four houses with corredores, stables, a panera and a mill. This architectural variety offers a different perspective on local history from the place names and tombs along the Camín Real: here, the focus is on a hamlet and its different elements.

Quesu d’Urbiés and the Certamen

Quesu d'Urbiés is made from whole cow’s milk without adding rennet or culture. The milk coagulates through acidification, a process that takes four to five days. The cheese has a very strong, sharp flavour. Its production and flavour give the cheese its own focus alongside the events.

The Certamen del Quesu d'Urbiés was held in 2024 as its XXVIII edition, in 2025 as its XXIX edition, and in 2026 as its XXX edition. At the 2026 Certamen, the cheese was presented and tasted on 6 June. The programme for 7 June included a craft market, cheese sales and another cheese tasting. This information relates to the June 2026 edition.
