Igriés offers several distinct points of interest for a stay: a 12th-century Romanesque chapel, a parish church with a building dating from 1950, local festival dates and trails in the Pinar de Igriés. The village’s hilltop setting also offers views of the contrasting landscapes of the comarca. You can get to know the place through its buildings, calendar and landscape.

Romanesque chapel and parish church

The Ermita de San Juan is a Romanesque chapel dating from the 12th century. In the upper part of Igriés, the Cruz de San Juan stands in front of its façade; the cemetery is also located there. This positioning makes the cross a distinct landmark when you visit the chapel.

The parish church of Igriés is dedicated to Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza. Its present-day building dates from 1950. This brings two distinct points in time together: the 12th-century chapel and the present-day church building from the 20th century. The dedication also helps distinguish the parish church clearly from the Ermita de San Juan.

Hilltop setting and landscape

Igriés is situated on a hill. From its heights, you can enjoy views of the contrasting landscapes of the comarca. This view of the surroundings complements the buildings with a regional perspective: alongside the history of individual buildings, the comarca’s varied landscape also comes into focus.

Trails in the Pinar de Igriés

The Pinar de Igriés is home to an official cross-country course, considered the first of its kind in Aragón. The Circuito XC is signposted from Igriés; its circular route starts about 750 metres from the village. For orientation, both the starting point of the signposted route and the approximate distance to the start of the circuit are specified. As trail signs may be updated, it is advisable to check the current signposting before setting out.

The Circuito XC can be combined with other marked downhill trails in the Pinar. The trails there are shared by hikers, horse riders and cyclists. The named circular route and the shared trails are therefore two different aspects to consider when finding your way around the Pinar. If you are out on the trails, take the other users into account when planning your route.

Festival dates in Igriés

On 20 January, Igriés holds celebrations in honour of San Sebastián and San Fabián. There are two further religious occasions in May: a pilgrimage in honour of the Virgen de Cillas takes place on the first Saturday of the month, and celebrations in honour of the Virgen del Olivar are held on the second Saturday. The occasions also differ in form: January’s event consists of celebrations, the first Saturday in May features a pilgrimage, and the second Saturday brings further celebrations.

If you would like to plan your trip around one of these events, check the specific festival dates in advance. This will help you plan around the dates on the calendar without confusing the three occasions.
