On the slopes of the Sierra de Chía, viewpoints, marked trails and buildings from different centuries come together. From Chía’s natural viewpoints, the view stretches across the Benasque Valley, with Turbón and the Sierra de Sis on the horizon. When planning your visit, you can focus on a hike, a bike ride, the town’s architectural history or local festivals.

Views and trails around Chía

A marked, easy trail leads to the Mirador de Chía. There are benches and information boards at the viewpoint. The Ruta de los miradores is a family hiking route that leads to the Ermita de la Encontrada and the Mirador de Chía. Along the way and at the destinations, it offers panoramic views of the Benasque Valley and the Pyrenees. If you choose this route, the Ermita is a named destination in addition to the viewpoint; the Mirador can also be reached via the trail described above.

The other trails also have different destinations. The PR-HU 51 climbs from Chía towards the scenic Cruz de Benás. Check trail conditions locally before hiking there. For cycling, the BTT Route 21 is a there-and-back route from Chía to the Collado de la Cruz; check its conditions locally before setting out, too. The PR-HU 87 begins about two kilometres from Chía. You can reach its marked turnoff via the PR-HU 51 in the direction of Seira. The information about the destinations and routes helps you choose each outing based on its specific course, without treating different trails as if they were the same.

Churches and local traditions

The parish church of San Vicente in Chía dates from the 18th century. For an older building, head outside the town: the Ermita de San Martín is a 12th-century Romanesque building with Jacobean influence and a bell tower. The two buildings offer different historical and architectural points of reference if you would like to explore the area’s architectural history as well as its trails.

The religious calendar includes pilgrimages to the Ermita de la Virgen de la Encontrada, held every Saturday in May, with residents of the valley communities also taking part. The festival in honour of the Virgin is celebrated on 8 September. These set dates give your trip planning a specific seasonal focus; if you plan to visit for a festival, check the dates in advance.

Getting there, regional directions and cuisine

If you are coming from the direction of Congosto del Ventamillo, the uphill access road from the A-139 leads to Chía shortly after the turnoff for Castejón de Sos. A track crosses the Collado de Sahún into the neighbouring Valle del Chistau. These are two different points of reference for finding your way: the road from the A-139 and the track over the pass into the neighbouring valley.

The local cuisine can also be part of your stay: Casa Chongastán is a family-run restaurant in Chía that puts the flavours of the mountains at the heart of its dishes. To choose a hotel in Chía, you could first consider which of these local highlights you want to shape your trip: the views and hiking trails, a cycling trip, the buildings or a visit during the festivals.
