The Rutas de las Huertas offer a direct insight into Aguadulce’s garden culture, taking you through a total of 30 gardens. The area also offers architectural history, walks along the Río Blanco and cuisine based on produce from local gardens. If you’re looking for a holiday rental, these features can help you decide whether Aguadulce is right for your stay.

Gardens and their traditions

On the Rutas de las Huertas, you can visit working gardens and observe the work of local gardeners firsthand. Huerta Las Almenas is one of Aguadulce’s distinctive gardens and is part of the routes. Its Neo-Mudéjar façade is topped with battlements. The Centro de Interpretación Las Huertas presents the town’s traditional horticultural heritage. An interactive space provides information about the gardens along the route. If you plan to visit the space, check its current accessibility in advance.

Buildings and traces of history

The Puente de Piedra is a Renaissance bridge with five arches, dating from 1596. Historically, it connected the areas of Estepa and Osuna. Casa Pepe Hara was built in 1930 and housed Aguadulce’s first farmers’ casino. Its exterior is modernist, while its interior is influenced by Seville.

The Iglesia de San Bartolomé also tells a story of architectural change: it was first built as a single-nave church in the 17th century and now has three naves following several alterations. The church houses a valuable 17th-century oil painting as well as 18th-century goldsmiths’ work. The Jardín de Dolores is located just behind the parish church. On Calle San Bartolomé, you can admire typical Andalusian whitewashed houses.

Archaeological evidence reaches back to earlier periods. Bronze Age socketed axes were found at Cerro Real. Archaeological finds in Aguadulce also point to a significant Roman villa.

Walks along the RĂo Blanco

You can walk through the surrounding countryside and along the Río Blanco. Near the Puente de Piedra, there is a picnic area beside the river. When planning your visit, you’ll find both routes through the countryside and a specific place to take a break by the water.

Horticulture in the local cuisine

Aguadulce’s cuisine, based on produce from local gardens, includes dishes such as Cazuela de habas and stuffed artichokes. These dishes give the garden culture a culinary connection.
