From the Sierra de Tolox viewpoint, the 360-degree panoramic view stretches from the main peaks of the Sierra de las Nieves mountain range to the Guadalhorce Valley. Tolox combines these far-reaching landscapes with nature trails, local history and festivals—offering different highlights to consider when planning your trip.

Mountain Views and Nature

Two-thirds of the municipality of Tolox lies within Sierra de las Nieves National Park. La Torrecilla, the highest peak in western Andalusia, is also located within the municipality. On the slopes of Cerro Corona is one of the national park’s most significant Spanish fir forests; it can be reached from Cañada de las Carnicerías. The viewpoint, summit and forest offer different ways to experience nature: views across the surrounding area, a striking peak and a Spanish fir forest.

Walking Trail, Route and Waterfall

The trails differ in their layout. The Botánico de las Peridotitas is a 717-metre circular trail with a gentle incline, making it suitable for families. The SL-A 238 Virgen de las Nieves is a classic route from Tolox to the recreation area at the Ermita de la Virgen de las Nieves. It is set in a pine forest with benches, tables and fountains. Check the route’s status locally before setting out.

A different natural feature awaits you at Charco de la Virgen: a waterfall plunges into a pool used by canyoners and swimmers in summer. Use of the site is therefore seasonal. If you are interested in this spot, you can consider it as a distinct highlight alongside the walking trail and viewpoint when making your selection.

Local History and the Balneario

The Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel was built in 1505 in the Gothic-Mudéjar style. Art Tolox is a free open-air museum in Tolox. The works were donated to the municipality, and the museum is open 365 days a year. The two sites offer different highlights: the parish church’s architectural history and the art at the open-air museum.

The Balneario de Tolox opened in 1869 and specialises exclusively in respiratory conditions. Its water releases a gas that is used for inhalation. If treatment is relevant to your stay, confirm current availability directly with the Balneario.

Festivals and Grape Must

For summer travel dates, two festivals offer different timeframes. The Festival Folclórico Villa de Tolox has been held every year in the first half of July since 1993, in Plaza Alta; dates and programmes may vary. The Cohetá, in honour of the patron saint San Roque, takes place every year on 16 August and includes a procession accompanied by thousands of rockets. Its exact schedule may also vary. If you are planning your trip around either festival, check the specific event dates in advance.

The Cata de Mosto de Tolox is associated with January. Local grape-must producers select their best musts, which compete for the title of best must of the harvest. Check the specific event date before your trip if you would like to include this occasion in your plans.
