From Mirador El Corzo, the view stretches from Cerro del Pechón, which stands 881 metres high, across Ojén and the coast from Mijas to Fuengirola. Together with the stepped streets and the town’s museums, this viewpoint shows how a stay in Ojén can put the landscape and local history at the heart of your visit. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first consider whether views and trails, cultural interests or a specific event date will shape your stay.

Nature, Trails and Viewpoints

Sierra Blanca stretches across the municipal areas of Istán, Ojén and Marbella. As a Site of Community Importance (SCI) ES6170011, it is part of the Natura 2000 network. Animals living there include Iberian ibex, roe deer and genets; some of these species are difficult to spot. Wildlife is therefore a distinct feature of the area, although sightings cannot be guaranteed.

The viewpoints differ in the views they offer and what they overlook. El Corzo looks out over Ojén and the coast from Mijas to Fuengirola. Mirador del Chifle lies east of the town centre and offers views across the Río Real valley. Mirador El Macho Montés, meanwhile, marks the end of the signposted El Juanar–Puerto Marbella hiking trail in Sierra Blanca. It is also known as Mirador de Puerto Rico or Mirador de Marbella.

The long-distance PR-A 167 trail follows the Camino del Cerezal through a densely vegetated ravine to Ojén. At the trail’s final junction, both possible routes lead to Ojén. This route description combines a specific landscape feature with a navigation point, without providing information about walking time or difficulty.

The Llanos de Purla recreational area offers another way to spend time outdoors. Facilities include a paved car park, fifteen tables, toilets and picnic facilities with barbecues. The viewpoints, the route through the ravine and the available picnic facilities can therefore be considered as different priorities when planning your visit.

Streets, Museums and Cultural Heritage

Ojén’s historic streets reflect the town’s Islamic origins and include stepped lanes. The Museo del Aguardiente focuses on the history and legend of the liqueur. Information panels, labels, posters and old vessels give the subject tangible objects and a range of forms of presentation. The Museo del Molino de Aceite shows how olive oil used to be produced.

A church built in 1505 stands at the corner of Plaza de Andalucía and Paseo de Ojén. It has a rectangular floor plan and a single-nave interior; its architecture includes a Mudéjar roof structure with interlaced bandwork. It is also believed that the church was founded as an Arab mosque during the settlement’s early medieval beginnings. This interpretation is part of its recorded history and remains an assumption.

Another way to explore local history is Ojén’s Stations of the Cross. Along the ascent to El Calvario, fourteen polychrome tiled altarpieces depict the Passion of Christ; the Stations of the Cross form a permanent cultural route. The Eras del Calvario are part of Ojén’s ethnographic heritage. Built before the 16th century, they are protected for their historical and cultural significance.

The caves offer different points of interest, too: the lower caves have been restored for cultural use, while the upper caves offer views of the townscape and the Mediterranean. Cultural use and scenic views are therefore distinct aspects. The description of the Museo del Molino de Aceite adds the historical production of olive oil to these themes.
