The Ronda and Málaga Wine Route passes through Moclinejo, in the province of Málaga. Wine, architecture and hiking opportunities give the destination a variety of highlights: you can plan your trip around an annual festival, cultural and historical themes, or trails with different elevation profiles. To help choose the right time to visit, it is useful to weigh up these highlights in advance.

Wine tradition and festivals

The Fiesta de Viñeros is celebrated every year on the second Sunday in September, after the grape harvest has ended. Demonstrations include treading grapes, sifting and making raisins; typical products such as Moscatel wine, gazpacho and roscos are also available to taste. The demonstrations and tastings included in the programme may vary from year to year. If you are travelling for a particular programme item, check the annual programme before your trip. The Certamen de Verdiales is another event held every year. You should also confirm its date when planning your trip.

Architecture and local culture

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Gracia was built in the 16th century and features Mudéjar and Renaissance elements. This makes it a distinctive point of interest for anyone interested in the town's architectural history. The Casa Museo Axarquía has a different focus: it celebrates local traditions and crafts, as well as the artistic work of Antonio Montañez. Most of the building was constructed using reused demolition materials, and it houses between 100 and 150 works of art.

Winemaking at the museum

The Bodega Antonio Muñoz Cabrera also brings a visit to life through the history of winemaking. Its museum traces the development of wine production in the Axarquía from 1927 to the present day. A guided visit to the facilities can be booked, and the indoor museum can also be visited. As booking conditions may change, check current availability before your trip.

Hiking with a range of highlights

When hiking, the range of trails is a practical factor to consider: Moclinejo offers more challenging routes with greater elevation changes, as well as easy, flat routes suitable for children. Some trails pass through vineyards and by old wine presses. One special route for children leads to the home of Ratoncito Pérez by following clues. This gives you a choice of different hiking profiles and a dedicated clue trail when planning your trip.

Getting there and planning

From Málaga, you can reach Moclinejo by car via the A-7 and MA-3113. Regular buses also run from Málaga to Moclinejo; the route is served by line 262. Check the latest bus timetable and road conditions before setting off. A guided tourist route runs through Moclinejo and El Valdés. If you would like to include this tour in your plans, ask about its current availability in advance.
