The ÄŚebelarska uÄŤna in razgledna pot (Beekeeping and Viewpoint Trail) starts at Fortuna in Spodnje Gorje. It combines a walk through the landscape with insights into local beekeeping and cultural history. There are also churches and chapels, as well as cycling routes that pass through Spodnje Gorje and other places. You can shape your stay around the topics that interest you most.

Bee Trail with Expansive Views

From Spodnje Gorje, the Čebelarska učna in razgledna pot follows a quiet gravel road with scenic views towards the village of Višelnica. The views extend to the Karawanks and the Kamnik–Savinja Alps, as well as Bled, Radovljica and Kranj; the Ljubljana Basin is also among the viewpoints mentioned. At the beginning of the route stands Jože Bernik’s beehive—the first beehive on the trail.

The history of beekeeping extends beyond today’s route: a report from 1691 describes how 72 beehives from Spodnje Gorje and Zgornje Gorje were taken to pasture in the forests of Pokljuka. This is a historical account, not a description of a present-day activity. Together with the beehive at the start of the trail, it gives the topic of beekeeping a concrete local connection.

Churches and Chapels in Spodnje Gorje

The branch church of St. OĹľbolt was first mentioned in 1501 and has been designated a monument of local importance since March 26, 2022. The chapels also each tell their own story. Jenskotova Chapel was moved 20 metres uphill in 2022 during the reconstruction of the road. Marijina Chapel was consecrated in 1882.

A polychrome statue of Mary with the Christ Child and two angels stands in a niche in Marijina Chapel. Those interested in religious buildings will find different points of interest here: the branch church’s historical mention and designation as a monument, the relocation of Jenskotova Chapel, and the furnishings of Marijina Chapel. In this way, local history and architectural details complement one another, without all the sights telling the same story.

Vintgar Gorge: Trail and Getting There

The area of influence of Vintgar Gorge lies mostly within the municipality of Gorje and includes the settlements of Spodnje Gorje and Podhom. It also extends partly into the municipalities of Bled and Jesenice. A 1.6-kilometre-long, paved and secured trail runs through the gorge.

Direct access by car to Vintgar Gorge is not possible. Visitors can park in the free VINTGAR LIP car park and take the VINTGAR Shuttle e-bus to the visitor centre. Check the transport arrangements before setting off so you can include this access option in your plans.

Cycling Tours with Different Routes

The “Družinski potep” (“Family tour”) cycling route is a loop from Bled through Zasip, Podhom, Spodnje Gorje, Grabče, Krnica and Poljšica pri Gorjah, returning to Bled. Two other named tours have stated distances and follow different sequences of places.

The 21-kilometre “Severni blejski krog” passes through Spodnje Gorje and continues via Zgornje Gorje, Zatrnik, Pokljuka, Gorjuše, Koprivnik, Jereka, Bohinjska Češnjica, Stara Fužina, Ribčev Laz and Bohinjska Bistrica. The 21.5-kilometre “Po lovskih sledeh na Jelovici: Talež” tour passes through Spodnje Gorje, Radovna and Krma; on the return, it goes via Kočna to Bled. The two routes with stated distances are similar in length, but differ in the places listed and their routes. Check current route conditions before setting off.
