If you’re planning a stay in Bohinjska Bistrica, you can choose from a variety of activities: relax at the aquapark, explore local history, hike a section of the Juliana Trail, go ski touring or spend a Saturday morning at the market. This lets you plan your trip around your own interests without trying to pack culture, exercise and relaxation into a full day’s itinerary.
Relax at the Aquapark
Aquapark Bohinj is located at Triglavska cesta 17 in Bohinjska Bistrica. Facilities include a relaxation pool, a children’s pool and a whirlpool. There is also a wellness area with ten saunas of four different types, as well as a salt room for adults and children. The water facilities and sauna options offer different ways to enjoy a visit. Check the operator’s latest information before you go, as facilities and services may change.
History from different perspectives
The Bohinj History Museum is housed in Bohinjska Bistrica in the birthplace of TomaĹľ Godec. Its permanent exhibition traces the history of Bohinj from prehistoric settlement through the First and Second World Wars. Occasional workshops for children and adults are also offered; check the specific programme dates before your visit.
For a closer focus on the 20th century, visit the Historia Bohinj museum collection in Bohinjska Bistrica. It explores events that shaped Bohinj during that century, including the construction of the Bohinj railway tunnel and the two world wars. The topics overlap when it comes to the wars, but cover different periods overall. The Mali vojni muzej soške fronte 1915–1917 is also located in Bohinjska Bistrica.
There is also a local connection to a specific cultural heritage tradition: traditional Slovenian saluting with mortars has been listed in the Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2019. The Mali vojni muzej society demonstrated it in Bohinjska Bistrica on 24 August 2024.
Juliana Trail and Kobla
The eighth stage of the Juliana Trail leads from Bohinjska Bistrica over the historic Vrh BaÄŤe pass to Podbrdo. The pass is a waypoint on the stage, and Podbrdo is its destination. Check the route details before setting out.
Kozji hrbet is the lower part of the former Kobla ski centre and is particularly suitable for families and beginners. This is separate from the ski touring recommendation for Kobla: the area is recommended after fresh snowfall or for beginners practising ski touring. The ski touring slopes at Kobla are accessible by car.
Fishing on the Sava Bohinjka
The first section of the Sava Bohinjka fishing area runs from where the Jezernica flows out of Lake Bohinj to the road bridge below the Bohinjska Bistrica river. This section is managed by the Bohinj Angling Club. Fly fishing is the only method permitted in the fishing area. All types of line are allowed, but without any additions that would alter their original properties. When planning, it is therefore important to consider both the permitted method and the restrictions on materials.
Market and getting oriented locally
The Bohinjska tržnica takes place every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stalls offer local produce, dairy products, honey and crafts. If you’re planning a visit to the market, check the latest schedule and offerings beforehand, as both may change.
If you’re driving from Ljubljana, the first TIC Bohinj on the way is at Mencingerjeva ulica 10 in Bohinjska Bistrica. Visitor service locations may change, so check the latest information before planning a stop.
