Flower beds and themed gardens, trails with very different time requirements, and a historic market centre give Mozirje clear starting points for a stay. Options range from a walking trail to the flower park to a longer route classified as easy, as well as local history and seasonal landscape exploration. This lets you tailor your trip to the time you have available for walking and your interests.

Mozirski gaj and trails with different time requirements

Mozirski gaj is a flower park with flower beds and themed gardens. It also includes an open-air ethnographic museum. Gardens and ethnographic themes come together at this destination: the themed gardens provide the floral focus, while the open-air museum adds a cultural and historical perspective.

For planning your walk, you can compare two trails that differ considerably. The walking trail from the Mozirje TIC to Mozirski gaj is 0.8 km long, takes about 30 minutes and is suitable for families with small children. Pot od zvonika do zvonika is classified as an easy hiking trail, covers 18 km and takes approximately five hours. So, for a short outing with small children, the walking trail to Mozirski gaj is a more suitable option; if you are planning a longer hike, Pot od zvonika do zvonika is the longer alternative.

Market centre and exhibitions

The historic market centre of Mozirje includes historic market houses as well as carved benches and portals made of greenish volcanic tuff. The centre is characterised not only by its houses, but also by its decorative details and distinctive stone. Those interested in built heritage will find a different way to explore the area here than on the trails or in the flower park.

Summer, festivals and food

In summer, Golte offers the chance to explore a landscape park via numerous marked trails, as well as an alpine garden. Seasonal opening may vary, so check current visiting options before making plans. Unlike the flower park, Golte is primarily about exploring the landscape park in summer.

Pust Mozirski is an annual carnival featuring musical entertainment, a gala, a children’s masquerade and a parade. The programme and dates vary from year to year. If you want to plan your stay around the festival, check the dates for your travel year.

You can also pair food with a specific activity. A walk along a scenic country road includes a traditional shepherd’s snack meal of homemade salami, cheese, bread and an apple. A tasting of zgornjesavinjski želodec is paired with apple juice, cider, selected wines, sparkling wines and spirits. The two experiences differ: the shepherd’s snack is part of a walk, while the tasting features a selection of drinks. If you plan to book either one, check the relevant booking conditions in advance; the selection at the tasting may also vary.
