A flower park on the banks of the Savinja, carnival traditions and trails with different time requirements give Mozirje its distinctive appeal for visitors. Here you can explore a garden that offers insights into ethnographic heritage, discover local traditions or experience the landscape on foot.

Flowers and heritage at Mozirski gaj

On the banks of the Savinja lies Mozirski gaj, a flower park featuring objects from the ethnographic heritage of the Upper Savinja Valley. Its areas include an herb garden and a rock garden; an observation tower adds another viewpoint to the visit. This brings gardens and evidence of regional heritage together in one place.

Events for visitors take place at Mozirski gaj throughout the year. If you are planning to attend a particular event, check the specific dates: the program may change.

Carnival traditions and an international parade

Pust Mozirski, the Mozirje Carnival, organizes carnival celebrations, a children's masquerade and an international carnival. Its traditions include okol'ofiranje, the handover of municipal administration and the burial of the carnival doll. These different elements show how celebrations and traditional practices coexist during the carnival.

One highlight is the international parade: it takes place in the afternoon on the streets of Mozirje and features groups from Slovenia and other countries. As annual program details may change, it is worth checking the specific dates before visiting.

Regional tastings and a playful discovery

At Enoteka Mozirje, the “Okusi Zgornje savinjske doline” tasting pairs Zgornje savinjski želodec with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The tasting menus also include cold cuts of Zgornje savinjski želodec and homemade cheese. If you are planning a tasting, check current availability and booking conditions in advance; both may change.

Čebelica Gaja offers another way to discover Mozirje: its playful route winds between the old market houses. Those who guess the solution word receive a sweet surprise at a pastry shop. Availability and visitor arrangements may change; check in advance if you plan to include this stop.

Trails for different timeframes

Two trails start at the Golte Hotel and differ in duration and destination. The Rabbit Trail is suitable for all ages; in 1 hour and 30 minutes, it leads to an artificial lake, a small chapel, the Mozirska koča mountain hut and the alpine garden. The Chamois Trail is intended for older children and adults. The route to Ledenica Cave and the Jezerca lakes is listed as taking 2 hours and 15 minutes. When choosing, you can take both the time available and the destination into account.

On the Golte plateau, hiking trails also pass an artificial lake, Ledenica Cave, small lakes and a small chapel. These destinations offer different ideas of what you can discover along the way, though not every route includes the same points of interest.

Žabja pot Blate is an easy, 3.5-kilometer forest walking trail. It passes the Blate ponds and heads towards Rečica ob Savinji. Green frog symbols on the trees mark the route; it is suitable for families with children. For a longer walk, Pot do izvira Ljubije is an easy, 17-kilometer tourist route, with an estimated duration of about five hours.

Shorter walks offer a different timeframe: the easy Pešpot Mozirje–Loke is 4.5 kilometers long, takes about an hour and is suitable for families with children. From TIC Mozirje, a 0.8-kilometer walking trail leads to the Mozirski gaj flower park and open-air museum in about 30 minutes; this trail is also suitable for families with young children. The stated distances and walking times help you choose an option that fits the time available.
