Two specific themes stand out in Bočna: heritage and named trails. The Church of St Peter is designated as a religious building, and several routes name Bočna as a starting point, a place to pass through or a destination. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can first consider whether local history, a shorter walk or a longer route should shape your stay.

The Church of St Peter and heritage

The Church of St Peter is located at Bočna 52 and is designated as a religious building and a heritage site. The Christian sanctuary was first mentioned in 1426 in the land register of Gornji Grad. Its location changed when the church was redesigned in 1855; at the same time, it acquired a Neo-Romanesque style.

The village of Bočna is designated as a protected immovable heritage area under the reference number EŠD 4447. The Gradišče archaeological site is designated as archaeological heritage. Tonkov križ is also designated as a heritage site and is associated with Delce and Bočna. These designations refer to different aspects: the church and its history, the protected village area, archaeology and another heritage site.

Choose trails by length and route

Distance and the sequence of places can help you choose a route. The 2.9 km Sun Trail runs from Otok or Tonkov križ in Delce via Podhom and back to Otok. At 4.1 km, the Bee Trail is longer; it runs from Fricelj via Otok, Tonkov križ and Delce to Bočna. The routes differ not only in length: the Sun Trail returns to Otok, while the Bee Trail ends in Bočna. Consider which route better suits your plans. As the route guide is older, check current conditions on both trails locally.

Another, considerably longer route is the 27.2 km trail to Menina. It runs from Gornji Grad via Bočna and Menina to Nova Štifta; Bočna is one of the places along the stated route. Before setting off, check the current trail conditions and, for this route, the trail markings too.

Beekeeping, mountain biking and fishing

The Bee Trail leads to local beekeepers and apiaries where homemade honey products can be purchased. As well as following a trail, visitors can learn about local beekeeping. Individual suppliers and product availability may change.

From Bočna, it is possible to take a climb suitable for mountain bikes to the Dom na Menini mountain hut. If you choose this option, check current surface conditions and access locally.

Fishing is possible on the Dreta and its tributaries as a leisure activity. In the Dreta section from the confluence of the Kropa to Rjavčeva žaga below Bočna, catch and release is the only permitted method for visitors; barbel and chub may not be fished there. As regulations may change seasonally, check the applicable fishing rules before fishing.
