The river, rural landscape and traditions give Griblje a variety of things to explore. Depending on your interests, you can focus your stay by the Kolpa on water activities, a trip to Ribnik v Gribljah or cultural attractions.
Boating and swimming on the Kolpa
Above the weir in Griblje, there is a designated boat launch and landing point as well as a riverside rest area. For entering and exiting the river, and for breaks while boating, use only designated, equipped locations. This rule applies to river users in general, not just in Griblje.
Griblje is one of the Kolpa villages with the best swimming spots. Paddlers can follow the Kolpa from the launch point at Stari Pod to Griblje. There are several water activities to choose from: swimming, using the designated launch and landing point in Griblje, or paddling from Stari Pod.
Ribnik v Gribljah and the rural landscape
Ribnik v Gribljah lies among fields between the villages of Krasinec and Griblje. To visit, park by the road and then walk about 500 metres through the fields. Check the path conditions on site before planning your detour.
The pond is visited by a variety of animals; storks have also been spotted there. With the pond and the footpath through the fields, this trip offers a different focus from river activities.
The Kolpa as a natural landscape
In the area downstream of Griblje, the Kolpa’s floodplain widens. Along the entire course of the Kolpa, there is a variety of aquatic and riverside habitats. They provide favourable living conditions for many rare and endangered species, particularly fish, European pond turtles, freshwater pearl mussels and otters. Kolpa Landscape Park lies in Slovenia’s far southeast, on the border with Croatia, and encompasses the Kolpa Valley and its hinterland. It stretches as a narrow strip between Stari trg and Dragoši, so the park extends beyond the riverbank zone.
Traditions and historical connections
Rally Griblje is a traditional gathering of historic bicycle enthusiasts; dates may vary. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the event dates in advance. The traditional Pastirski praznik features shepherds’ games, a scything competition and a late lunch. The traditional Vidovsko žegnanje in Griblje includes a cultural and religious programme.
The events have distinct themes: historic bicycles, shepherds’ games and scything, or a cultural and religious programme. On 21 June 2026, Griblje marked the 500th anniversary of the first written mention of the Church of St. Vitus, a filial church.
