Radlek lies in the western part of the Bloške planota, the Bloke Plateau. The village is situated in a small hollow on a saddle between Pogorelec (807 m), Lisec (872 m) and Hrib (805 m). This location gives visitors a clear sense of the surrounding landscape; at the same time, local points of interest range from trails towards Slivnica to Radlek’s memorial sites. You can therefore focus your stay on hiking, local history or a combination of both.

The combination of a hollow and a saddle describes Radlek’s location more precisely than the plateau alone: the plateau identifies the broader landscape, while the hollow on the saddle pinpoints the village’s setting. Of the three elevations listed, Lisec is the highest at 872 metres; Pogorelec and Hrib, at 807 and 805 metres, are just two metres apart. This comparison gives a more precise picture of Radlek’s location between the surrounding heights.

Trails to Slivnica and the mountain hut

The trail from Radlek to Slivnica is an easy, waymarked hiking trail. Another route leads from Radlek to the Dom na Slivnici mountain hut, at an elevation of 1,078 metres. These offer different reference points when choosing a destination: the Slivnica trail is described by its difficulty and waymarking, while the hut is identified by its destination and elevation.

The Via Dinarica runs from Slivnica through Radlek to Velike Bloke. Its total length is given as 160 km and may change with route revisions. This total length does not refer to the section through Radlek; for specific planning, use the relevant section instead. Check local waymarks before setting out, as the route may change.

Mountain hut and e-bike

The Dom na Slivnici mountain hut has an e-bike charging station and a repair station. Before setting off, check whether both facilities are currently in operation. The hut has ten rooms with a total of 37 beds. If you would like to stay there, check availability for your travel dates.

Memorial sites and local history

The Chapel of the Holy Cross stands in Radlek. Two memorial sites provide further specific points of reference for the village’s history. The monument to the twelve hostages marks the place where hostages were shot on 13 August 1942; it was unveiled in 1956. It stands beside a forest road west of the village. Check local access conditions before visiting, as they may change.

The memorial plaque to Ivan Furlan-Drago is mounted on a natural rock at the western edge of the village, beside the road. It commemorates the commander of the Notranjska Detachment, who fell in June 1944; the plaque was unveiled in 1996. The dates given relate to different periods: 1942 and 1944 refer to the historical events, while 1956 and 1996 refer to the unveilings. This makes it possible to distinguish the history of the events from the later commemorations.
