Hermanovce brings together a distinctive church heritage and hiking trails in the surrounding area. According to the municipality, the Church of St Elizabeth of Hungary is the village’s defining landmark.

Church and Gloriet

The Church of St Elizabeth of Hungary was built in the Baroque style in 1650. It stands on the site of an older Gothic church, mentioned as early as 1438, and was restored between 1860 and 1864. The building therefore helps place several clearly distinct periods in the village’s history: the mention of its Gothic predecessor, the construction of the Baroque church and its later restoration.

In front of the church entrance stands the Gloriet, an artistic tomb monument dating from 1811. It serves both as a garden pavilion and as a symbolic and actual family mausoleum. The Gloriet is listed as a national cultural monument under number 292/2 in the Central Register of the Monument Fund and is considered a significant landmark in Hermanovce. Architecture, remembrance and protected monument status come together here in a compact space.

Memorial Room and the Péchy Estate

The memorial room dedicated to Štefan Hlaváč and František Majoch commemorates two priests from Hermanovce. The items on display include vestments, a grave cross, books and photographs from Štefan Hlaváč’s life. The section dedicated to František Majoch features photographs of the places where the priest died and was buried. Alongside personal mementos, the places associated with Majoch are also central to the display.

Kaštieľ Péchy is a historic manor house in Hermanovce, with a history dating back to the 18th century, and is considered a unique example of a manor with a rich cultural heritage. The estate is set within a three-hectare English-style park. Kaštieľ Péchy is private property and can be visited by prior arrangement; bear this condition in mind when planning a visit.

The preserved remains of the estate’s farmyard, known as Pánsky dvor, in the village centre offer a different perspective on the former Péchy estate. They are open to the public and form part of the Péchy estate’s farmyard. Access therefore differs significantly from that to the private Kaštieľ, which requires a prior arrangement.

Local History and Landscape

A deed of inheritance division from 1320 names Hermanovce as “Villa Hermanni superior et inferior,” or Upper and Lower Hermanovce. This historical name provides an early written reference to the village. Hermanovce also lies on the slopes of the Šarišská vrchovina. According to a report, its natural beauty attracts visitors from the wider area; this regional context should be distinguished from the specific landmarks within the village.

North of Hermanovce, at the foot of Kucmanka hill, there is a Stations of the Cross. It adds a religious dimension to the architectural and local history of the landscape, and should not be conflated with the landmarks mentioned within the village.

Hiking Trails and Tips for Your Stay

A red-marked hiking trail starts at the cemetery by the bus stop. It passes through Chrasť (773.5 m above sea level) and Lazy (853.9 m above sea level) to Mount Mindžová (920 m above sea level), then continues to the municipality of Tichý potok. These waypoints and elevations give a clear sense of the route: Mindžová is higher than Chrasť and Lazy, and the trail continues onward to Tichý potok.

The Hermanovce–Chotárna hiking trail opened in 2013. A hiker describes views of Čergov and the valley near Renčišov along a route toward Chotárna. The Chotárna hut is visited both by people passing through and by hikers who come to the region for a weekend and stay there overnight. Check the hut’s facilities before setting out.

When planning a stay, consider these different aspects: the cultural sites have different access arrangements, while the hiking information specifies waypoints, elevations and a destination in Tichý potok. If you would like to include Kaštieľ Péchy, arrange access in advance; if you plan to stay at the Chotárna hut, check its facilities before setting out.
