Štrba combines a panorama of the High Tatras with an unusually tangible local history. From Štrba, the view opens northward onto the High Tatras. At the same time, a European watershed runs through the municipality: it separates drainage toward the Black Sea from drainage toward the Baltic Sea. The panorama offers a specific view; the watershed places the landscape in its wider geographical context beyond this vista.

Churches and Timber Construction

The Evangelical church in Štrba dates from 1784; the Roman Catholic Church of St. Andrew dates from 1884. The exact one-century gap makes the dates easy to compare; the churches also belong to different denominations. An original wooden cottage from Štrba has been preserved and designated a protected cultural monument. It is a log construction. In this building method, logs or planks are laid horizontally on top of one another to form the walls. The term therefore describes not only the material but also the construction. The churches can be compared by date and denomination; the wooden cottage, by contrast, draws attention to its log construction.

Šoldov and the Lost Settlement

On the edge of the municipality of Štrba, the remains of the lost medieval settlement of Šoldov lie beside a field path leading toward Važec. Šoldov is an important historical site. Partially reconstructed buildings of the settlement, a monument, an information board, and a small seating area are located at the site. The perspective differs from the chronology of the churches: the focus is on the remains of a lost settlement and its partially reconstructed buildings. In this way, Šoldov adds an archaeological dimension to Štrba’s architectural history.

Folklore, Poetry, and Community Day

Folklore and poetry are also part of Štrba’s cultural history. The Štrbän folklore ensemble has been active in Štrba for 50 years; popular poetry festivals have been held for 67 years. For the 25th edition of Community Day, Deň obce Štrba, the municipality invited visitors together with the URBÁR Štrba land community and the Štrba agricultural cooperative. This adds community-based cultural activities to the buildings and historical site.

Rail Connection and Cycle Path

A rail connection starts right at the railway station in Štrba. Check the operator’s latest information before travelling. On August 25, 2026, the municipality reported the completion of a section of the cycle path between Štrba and Lučivná. The section is part of the cross-border Cesta okolo TATIER cycling route. As infrastructure status can change, check the current route conditions before setting out on a bike ride. The rail connection starts at the station; the information about the cycle path concerns a specific section between two places.
