Prasice brings together distinct themes for visitors: in the north, the forests of the Považský Inovec shape the landscape, while the Duchonka recreation area is associated with a reservoir and waterside leisure. There are also religious buildings and a hunting lodge from different periods. Visitors planning a stay can choose between nature, waterside activities, hiking and architectural history.

Forest and water at Duchonka

The northern part of Prasice is covered by the forests of the Považský Inovec. The Duchonka recreation area is located in the north of Prasice, in a birch grove near a 17-hectare reservoir. While the forests define the northern part of the village, the birch grove and reservoir shape the surroundings of the recreation area. This makes it easy to distinguish the wider landscape from the specific setting of Duchonka.

Boating and surfing are possible on the reservoir. The Duchonka recreation centre has a sandy beach on the western shore. The activities take place on the reservoir, while the beach is located on the western shore. Conditions for recreational activities may vary depending on the season.

On foot along the educational trail

The Náučný chodník Považský Inovec educational trail is self-guided and laid out as a branching linear route with ten branches. It is 60 kilometres long in total; this length includes the branches leading to villages. The trail can be walked in either direction and is suitable for pedestrians year-round. Prasice is one of the villages connected to the trail by branches.

The details about the length and layout answer different questions: the 60 kilometres include the village branches, while the ten branches describe the trail’s branching layout. The fact that it can be walked in either direction is another useful point for anyone interested in a self-guided route. Unlike the activities at the reservoir, the trail is a separate focus for pedestrians.

Churches and architectural history

The Roman Catholic Church of Kostol sv. Jakuba was originally built in the Gothic style and remodelled in the Baroque style in 1758–1760. Its main altar is Neoclassical and dates from the late 18th century. The style descriptions therefore refer to different parts of the building’s history: the original structure, the later remodelling and the main altar.

The chapel of Kaplnka Sedembolestnej Panny Márie stands in the cemetery in Prasice and was built around 1820. One of its bells dates from 1800.

The Lovecký zámok – kaštieľ is located near Duchonka. The small, single-storey building was built in 1930–1931 and has a mansard roof. Its architecture is modelled on the style of old German hunting lodges. The building therefore differs from the religious buildings in both its period of construction and its form. The buildings can be considered in terms of both when they were built and how they were designed.

The interior of the Lovecký zámok – kaštieľ is not open to the public; the exterior and the surrounding grounds can be visited. If you plan a visit, check access locally.
