The Radošinka flows through Biskupová, which lies on the river’s middle course. The municipality is also part of the central section of the Nitra Loess Hills (Nitrianska sprašová pahorkatina). The village’s history goes back to the 13th century; the Zbehy–Radošina railway line also adds its own layer of history to the place.

Location between river and hills

The Radošinka is 31.59 kilometres long. Biskupová lies on its middle course, and the river flows through the municipality. This combines a specific location along the river with its place in a larger landscape. The terms describe different scales: the middle course locates Biskupová along a particular river, while the Nitra Loess Hills names the broader geographical setting.

The Zbehy–Radošina railway line also follows the course of the Radošinka and runs through the hilly landscape of the Nitrianska pahorkatina. The river and railway therefore share a geographical reference, but remain two distinct points of orientation: the river flows through Biskupová, while the railway line is a separate connection with a stop in the village.

Local history and recorded names

Biskupová’s origins date back to the 13th century. Its first written mention is from 1326, when it appears under the name Villa Domini Episcopi Nitriensis. Later recorded forms date from several centuries: Pispeky in 1440, Wiskupowa in 1773, and Biskupowa in 1786. The Hungarian name Püspökfalu is also recorded. This sequence highlights the difference between the early mention and the later forms of the name.

Biskupová belonged to the Diocese of Nitra and was later administered by the Radošina estate. In 1599, Turkish troops burned the village to the ground. These details belong to different chapters of local history: one concerns administration, the other a severe historical turning point.

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel stands in Biskupová. A mastodon lower jaw from the Biskupová site was recovered in 1962. These are two distinct points of interest: the church as a named building in the village, and the jaw as a dated palaeontological find.

Agriculture is also part of the village’s character. Biskupová retained its agricultural character during the First Czechoslovak Republic. Cereals played an important role in crop production, especially rye, wheat, oats, and barley, which are still grown today. This brings together the village’s historic agricultural character and the continued cultivation of specific cereal crops.

The Zbehy–Radošina railway line

The railway line began operating on 26 November 1909. Its route includes a stop in Biskupová. The line also follows the course of the Radošinka and runs through the hilly landscape of the Nitrianska pahorkatina. These details place the village’s connection to the railway within the regional landscape, without equating the river and the railway line.

As of May 2026, the line remained in place; regular passenger trains had not run there for more than two decades. If you are considering a train journey, check the current operating status beforehand. This keeps the line’s historical significance and the practical question of present-day passenger services clearly distinct.
