In Kráľová nad Váhom, distinct chapters of local history meet the Váh and routes for exploring on foot or by bike. To get your bearings, it is worth considering the architectural history, natural surroundings and different ways of getting around separately.

Church, Kalvária and bell tower

The Baroque church Kostol sv. Alžbety was built in 1732 and extended in 1927. Its Baroque main altar dates from the mid-18th century. The construction date, later extension and furnishings therefore mark several stages in the church’s history.

The Kalvária of Kráľová nad Váhom was probably built between 1928 and 1932. Its 14 Stations of the Cross stand in a lime tree avenue; inside the hill is the chapel Kaplnka Božieho hrobu. The Stations of the Cross and the chapel’s location give the ensemble its own architectural structure.

The Rázsochová zvonica also offers a clear point of reference in time: it was built in 1897 and renovated from February to August 2010. A bronze bell is mounted at the top of a tall wooden post. The construction date and the later renovation are separate milestones in its history.

The Váh, natural surroundings and cycling routes

Kráľová nad Váhom lies in the Podunajská nížina, on the right-hand river terrace of the Váh, north of the district town. The river flows through the village from north to southeast. Part of the Kráľová Reservoir lies within the municipality’s cadastral area.

The CHVÚ Kráľová Special Protection Area also covers the cadastral area and is part of the Natura 2000 European network of protected areas. It is an important stopover, wintering and roosting site for birds. This protected-area perspective adds the area’s ecological role to the geographical overview.

There are two different cycling route details: a 4.3-kilometre section of the Vážska cyklomagistrála between Komárno and Šúrovce passes through Kráľová nad Váhom. There is also a 4.8-kilometre cycling route around the Kráľová hydroelectric power plant. The first figure refers to a section of the route connecting the two towns, while the second is the length of the route around the power plant.

In August 2026, conditions on the Váh were described as good for windsurfing, yachting and water skiing. Whether these activities are suitable depends on the weather and operating conditions.

Sports and local traditions

The Športový areál includes a 70 × 100-metre football pitch and a training ground. There is also an 18 × 33-metre multi-purpose court with artificial turf for five-a-side football, tennis and volleyball. Its dimensions and stated uses clearly distinguish the multi-purpose court from the football pitch.

During Advent, residents decorate windows as part of the Adventné okná tradition; the windows are clearly visible from public roads. Participation and dates may change from year to year. Local cultural events also include Obecné dni, held, among other times, in 2023 and on 22 and 23 August 2025. These dates also vary annually. If you are planning your trip around an event, check the dates for the relevant year.

The Kráľová nad Váhom hydroelectric power plant, built between 1980 and 1985, is part of the village’s more recent history. The plant houses a monumental artwork by artist František Chrástek, created during the construction of the power plant.
