The thermal baths, with pool water at 30 °C, and the area’s rich history give Tvrdošovce two concrete reasons to visit. If you are looking for a hotel in Tvrdošovce, you can start by planning your trip around your main interest: swimming, sacred art, or local history.

Thermal Baths and Local History

The thermal baths have pools with pleasantly warm thermal water at 30 °C. They are located at Nová cesta 1. If swimming is the deciding factor in choosing your destination, the water temperature provides a concrete point of reference for planning your trip.

Archaeological finds attest to settlement dating back to the Early Bronze Age, as well as traces of human life from the Early and Late Roman Imperial periods. The Municipal Museum on Dolná Street is dedicated to the history and traditions of Tvrdošovce and was established at the beginning of the 21st century. Archaeology and the museum offer two different ways to explore local history: early traces of settlement on the one hand, and local history and traditions on the other. If you plan to visit the museum, check current visiting arrangements in advance.

Church, Art, and Historic Memorials

The Church of St. Stephen combines a clearly dated period of renovation with later interior decoration. It was renovated between 1707 and 1725 and took on its present single-nave form with a side altar. Inside, it is decorated with frescoes by Master Jakobey, dating from 1881. The architectural form and frescoes therefore belong to different historical periods; together they offer a concrete point of reference if you are interested in sacred architecture and art.

The Rákóczi Monument stands by the new cemetery. It was completely redesigned in 2005 and has since been decorated with four carved reliefs. The site is also associated with an event from 1704: from here, Count M. Bercsényi sent three important letters to F. Rákóczi II on October 30. The bloody battle between the Kuruc forces and the Imperial Army took place on the so-called Rákóczi Hill.

Another historic memorial commemorates the victims of the 1848–49 Revolution and War of Independence. In 2002, the municipality erected a memorial column for three victims who came from Tvrdošovce. While the church and the Rákóczi Monument reflect architecture and historical connections to the area, this column focuses on three people from the community.
