On the right bank of the Paludžanka lies Lazisko, a place with a historical heritage, a vibrant Maypole tradition, and routes for a range of activities. The village’s history dates back to a written record from 1396; routes lead to Hradisko, where traces of the Púchov culture have been preserved.
Location and Landscape Around Lazisko
Lazisko lies in the southern part of the Liptovská kotlina Basin and within the protection zone of the “Národný park Nízkych Tatier” National Park. The village stretches along the right bank of the Paludžanka. This location brings together three distinct reference points: the basin, the protected landscape, and the river. It gives the village a clear geographical setting, while its history and routes offer further points of interest for a stay.
Village History and Living Traditions
The oldest written record of Lazisko dates from 1396. The use of the village’s southern edge is also part of its recorded history: serfs from Črmnô used it as kopanice settlements. Both details shed light on different aspects of the past—the early written record and the historical use of the land.
A historically significant bell tower stands in the village at its original location, right next to the municipal office. It houses a bell dating from 1930. The tower is therefore a tangible architectural testament to the village’s history, and its location can be pinpointed precisely.
The Maypole is part of the living tradition: Maypoles are erected in Lazisko at Pentecost. Today, a single central Maypole is put up and dedicated to all the girls and women of the municipality. In this way, the historical heritage and a tradition still observed today stand side by side, though they represent different aspects of the village’s history.
Routes to Cultural Sites and Through the Landscape
Tourist routes from Lazisko lead to Hradisko. Remains of the Púchov culture have been preserved there, making it possible to combine a route with an archaeological destination. Another scenic tourist route is the climb to Siná. The two suggestions name different destinations and give you a choice if you would rather focus your stay on a cultural site or a route.
Lazisko also offers a longer cycling tour: the “Around Liptovska Mara” loop is 58 kilometres long, passes through Lazisko, and is mainly suitable for mountain bikes and e-bikes. It is clearly distinct from shorter local outings: its distance is given as a loop, and the intended types of bike are also specified.
The Lazisko–Pavčina Lehota–Žiarce cross-country skiing circuit is another, different route option. It runs through meadows with beautiful views above Lazisko. When planning, you can distinguish between these options based on their details: the 58-kilometre mountain biking loop, the cross-country ski trail through meadows, the climb to Siná, and routes to Hradisko. This makes it easy to choose the focus that suits you, without treating the different routes as interchangeable.
