In Liptovsky Mikulas, the synagogue combines a neoclassical architectural history with an exhibition on the Jewish community; the gallery, museums and trails of varying lengths offer other topics to explore. This makes it possible to shape your stay around your interests in culture, art or nature, rather than fitting all the attractions into a fixed itinerary. Direct train and bus connections offer a travel option. Check suitable connections for your travel dates.

The synagogue and city history

The synagogue was built between 1842 and 1846 as a single-storey neoclassical building. Following a reconstruction in 1906, it took on its present appearance. The construction and reconstruction thus mark two distinct stages in its history. The synagogue has been open to the public since 1991; an exhibition explores the history of the local Jewish community.

The Mosty-Gesharim concert is held at the synagogue every year. If you would like to include the concert series in your stay, check the dates for your travel year. Since its founding in 1955, the Múzeum Janka Kráľa has documented the history of Liptovsky Mikulas and made it accessible to the public. It adds a distinct historical offering to the story of the city.

Art and educational activities

The Liptovská galéria Petra Michala Bohúňa is the third-oldest gallery in Slovakia and manages more than 5,500 works. Its exhibition “Pôvod maľby” presents paintings, icons and sculptures from the 15th to the 19th century. The range of art forms and periods gives the exhibition its own breadth, distinct from the city and community history presented at the synagogue.

Through the “Hviezdy galérie” project, the gallery offers educational activities for children, students and adults. They can be completed individually and without prior reservation. Those looking for an activity for different age groups will find an opportunity here to engage with art without having to book a shared time slot in advance. Program details may change; check the current offerings before your visit.

Trails and nature topics

The Háj Flow singletrack in Lesopark Háj-Nicovô is the first official singletrack in Liptovsky Mikulas. It is about 800 metres long and has an elevation difference of 100 metres. The trail is suitable for children as well as experienced trail riders. The climb follows the official paved road Generála P. Kunu. The start is at the end of the meadow by the war memorial and is marked by a wooden gate and trail signs. Trail conditions and access may change; check them before setting off.

The “Príroda a krajina okolo nás” educational trail is 1.3 kilometres long and has an elevation difference of 140 metres. Information panels and picnic spots are available along the route. Comparing route lengths alone, the educational trail is longer than the approximately 800-metre singletrack; their elevation differences are 140 and 100 metres, respectively. These figures help compare the stated route measurements without specifying a walking time.

An interactive museum visit

The Slovenské múzeum ochrany prírody a jaskyniarstva offers an interactive tour. Visitors can look inside a bear’s den, listen to sounds of nature and animals, and try crawling through a cave. The tour therefore involves visitors in several ways rather than relying solely on viewing exhibits. As individual interactive activities may change, check which elements are currently offered before your visit.
