Water from Bobačka Cave flows for about 500 metres through the forest and forms a waterfall around three metres high beside the road. The cave itself is a national natural monument: its underground chambers extend for more than five kilometres and are richly adorned with sinter. The cave chambers, forest route and waterfall bring together different scales of a natural environment.

Cave, waterfall and natural environment

Hutniansky Waterfall is beside the main road from Červená Skala to Muráň, just past the Muránska Huta bus stop. You can reach the waterfall by bus from Muráň or Červená Skala. If you plan to travel this way, check the current timetable in advance. Its location by the road and bus stop makes it easy to find; bus connections offer travel options from two places.

The cadastral area of Muránska Huta is part of Muránska planina National Park, which was established on 23 September 1997. Muránska Huta also offers hiking and cycling routes in a national park; route conditions may vary by season. Its protected-area status places the area in context, while hiking and cycling offer further activity options.

Circular hike to Muránsky Castle

A circular hike begins and ends in Muránska Huta and leads to Muránsky Castle. Its starting point is at Bobačka Waterfall, also called Hutnícky Waterfall, above the village. The loop is 12 km long, has an elevation gain of 565 m and takes about four hours. These three figures answer different planning questions: 12 km is the route length, 565 m is the elevation gain, and about four hours is the approximate time required. Trail conditions may vary, so use this as an estimate rather than an exact time.

The circular hike and the waterfall call for different kinds of planning: an approximate time commitment is given for the hike, while the waterfall is notable for its roadside location and bus access. This lets you choose between a hike lasting several hours and a natural attraction accessible by bus.

Horse riding as another activity

The Pod Planinou Riding Club also offers rides in nature for people who are not riders. The rides take you into the natural surroundings of a national park and the Stolické vrchy. Check availability locally before your trip. Horse riding thus complements hiking and cycling with a different way to experience nature.

Glassworks and hammer mill

Muránska Huta was established in 1652 together with a glassworks. In the 1860s, a hammer mill called “klinčiareň” operated here, making nails for wooden shingles. The two trades belong to distinctly different periods: the glassworks is associated with the founding of the village, while the hammer mill was active more than two centuries later. For those interested in local history, this offers a historical perspective on local production alongside the natural attractions.
