Rapovce offers an unusual combination: a thermal bath is currently located at the site of a borehole. The village is also a stop on the Cyklistický náučný chodník Lučenec – Ipolytarnóc cycling educational trail, which runs into Hungary, and its cadastral area also includes the Horný tok Ipľa protected area. Historic landmarks include the Kostol sv. Martina church and Kúria Rapovce. The bath, cycling route, riverine nature and architectural history offer different reasons to include the village in your travel plans.
Thermal Bath and Geological Background
A thermal bath with an access road is currently located at the site of the borehole in Rapovce. A municipal notice from 2026 mentions outdoor pools and an outdoor seating pool for recovery in connection with an organised visit. If you are travelling for these facilities, check in advance whether they will be available on your visit date.
The borehole reaches a final depth of 1,501.2 m; at a depth of 775 m, it encountered Mesozoic limestone from the Middle to Upper Triassic. Rapovce is so far the only place in the Novohrad-Nógrád Geopark where Mesozoic rocks have been confirmed. This geological background gives the village a distinct theme alongside its thermal bath: the borehole and the discovery of the rocks connect Rapovce with a unique geological classification within the geopark.
Cycling Educational Trail and River Landscape
For cyclists, Rapovce is a stop on the Cyklistický náučný chodník Lučenec – Ipolytarnóc cycling educational trail. The trail's name indicates a route from Lučenec to Ipolytarnóc in Hungary, making it a specific travel connection for the village.
The Horný tok Ipľa protected area also includes the cadastral area of Rapovce. As a linear protected area, it follows a watercourse and includes adjacent riverside vegetation. Much of it lies within the Poiplie Natura 2000 site; it also adjoins the Stredný tok Ipľa protected area. Its linear form describes a natural area along the watercourse and its banks, while its location in Poiplie and connection to Stredný tok Ipľa place it in its regional context.
Church and Manor House: Two Building Histories
The Kostol sv. Martina church was built in 1764 and renovated in 1854 and 1895. It was severely damaged during the Second World War; only the perimeter walls and main facade survived. Kúria Rapovce dates from 1768, was originally Neoclassical and was renovated in 1889 and 1909. The two buildings were first constructed just four years apart, but their later renovation phases took place in different decades.
Kúria Rapovce serves as a Roman Catholic rectory and is in very good condition. Check its condition on site if this information affects your plans. Together, the church and manor house offer two clearly distinct historical timelines: the church's story includes its renovations and severe war damage, while the manor house has a Neoclassical origin and later renovations.
