Mýtna offers several specific points of interest to help you plan your trip: a fortified Evangelical church ensemble, a 38-hectare water reservoir, the stream landscape of the Krivánsky Stream and the Morena spring tradition. Its architectural history, nature and customs each offer a different focus.

Church and Fortifications

The Evangelical church and its fortifications are part of Mýtna’s architectural heritage. They stand in a fortified area on a hill between villages. Inside the church, a wooden altar and a wooden pulpit dating from 1772 have been preserved. Both the site’s location and two specific historical furnishings are therefore part of the church’s character.

The fortifications include a wooden Baroque bell tower dating from the second half of the 18th century. Its square floor plan describes its shape, wood its material, and Baroque its stylistic classification. Together with the altar and pulpit, the ensemble can be viewed from several architectural perspectives: interior furnishings, building material, floor plan and period. The year 1772 refers to the altar and pulpit; the tower is dated to a broader period within the 18th century.

Water, Floodplain Forest and Stream Wildlife

The Mýtna water reservoir lies above Mýtna in the direction of Zvolen and covers 38 hectares. It is often visited by keen anglers. If fishing is one of your travel interests, this gives you a specific indication of the reservoir’s role in local leisure activities.

The natural setting extends beyond the water. Alder woods grow along the edge of the reservoir in the floodplain of the Krivánsky Stream. Crayfish, grass snakes and brown trout live in the stream. The area thus brings together different natural features: a body of water, a floodplain forest and the wildlife of a named stream. If you are more interested in landscapes and wildlife than architecture when choosing a destination, you will find a distinct focus here.

Morena as a Spring Custom

The local Morena tradition is a spring custom. Children carry a handmade traditional figure symbolizing winter in a procession to a stream. The figure gives the custom a clear motif, while the procession to a stream is its specific action. Its connection to spring sets this theme apart from the church’s architectural features: the focus here is on the season, the symbolic figure and the communal custom.

Culturally minded travelers will find two distinct points of interest: the church’s architectural form and preserved furnishings, and Morena, a seasonal custom featuring a symbolic figure and procession. Weighing up these themes can help you decide whether architectural history or local customs should be the focus of your trip.

Getting There and Choosing Accommodation

Mýtna is situated on the I/50 main road and has a railway stop on line 160. These provide both road and rail options to help you plan your journey. If you plan to travel by train, check the timetable for your travel date.

When looking for a holiday apartment, a simple question can help you decide: are you choosing Mýtna mainly for its church ensemble, its reservoir and stream landscape, or its Morena tradition?
