Ráztoka lies in a basin in the Nízke Tatry, surrounded by Farkašovo, Hradisko and Pod šípom. The Hradisko hillfort points to a long history of settlement; the surrounding area has marked hiking and cycling trails. When planning your trip, you can consider cultural history and outdoor activities as separate areas of interest.

Hradisko and the history of its construction

Hradisko is a national cultural monument and a settlement site in the form of a hillfort, situated on a rise. Traces of settlement from the Bronze Age, the Late Iron Age and the Middle Ages have been found there. These three periods give the site a tangible historical scope and make it a point of interest if you are interested in the area’s early settlement.

The chapel “kaplnka Sedembolestnej Panny Márie” was built in 1942 on the site of a former chapel dating from the 14th century. This connects two different periods of construction with the same location. The church “Kostol Navštívenia Panny Márie” in Ráztoka was built in 1840. It has a single nave, a semicircular presbytery apse and a wooden roof turret.

The history of Ráztoka also includes lace-making: in the past, some of the population made lace. This craft adds insight into a former local activity alongside the archaeological traces and buildings.

Events and when to visit

The “Ráztocký sviatok” festival is held annually in Ráztoka. The municipality’s “V OBRAZE” mobile app provides information about upcoming events. If you would like to time your trip to coincide with the festival, check the exact dates in advance using the app. This keeps your planning aligned with the event dates without assuming a particular date.

Basin, protected area and views

The location in a basin in the Nízke Tatry and the surrounding mountains shape the landscape around the village. Since 15 July 2026, the cadastral area of Ráztoka has been within the protection zone of Nízke Tatry National Park. Nearby, Ráztocká hoľa offers views from its summit and ridge of the main ridge of the Low Tatras and, to the south, the Horehronská kotlina.

These landscape features differ from the historical sites: Hradisko represents settlement traces from several periods, while Ráztocká hoľa opens up views of the mountain ridge and valley. If a combination of local history and mountain scenery is important to you when choosing where to stay, these two features offer different points of interest.

Hiking and cycling trails nearby

The “Ráztocké studničky” nature trail is located in Ráztoka and was established by the municipality in 2008. Two marked hiking trails, route numbers 2622 and 0816, also run through the surrounding area. They lead towards Predné Lazy, Zadné Lazy, Panské sedlo and Ráztocká hoľa. There are also two marked cycling trails nearby.

When planning, you can choose the type of trail as a focus in its own right: the hiking trails have route numbers and destination directions, while the cycling trails are a separate option. Before setting out, it is worth checking the current trail markings and conditions.
