Stara Pazova offers several specific points of interest for a culture-focused stay: a museum collection with more than 3,600 artefacts, churches representing different architectural styles, and a former savings bank building. Nearby is the white poplar “Bela topola kod Stare Pazove”. Together, these offer a mix of local and architectural history and a natural attraction outside the town centre.

Museum and Cultural Traditions

The museum collection at the home of national hero Janko Čmelik in Stara Pazova comprises more than 3,600 artefacts. The ethnological exhibition explores the lives of the local Slovak population and long-established Serbs. This means that, alongside the buildings, it also focuses on the ways of life of two communities. The SKUD “Heroj Janko Čmelik” offers a different perspective: the organisation preserves and promotes the culture, traditions and customs of the Slovaks of Stara Pazova. While the collection brings together ethnological exhibits, the SKUD focuses on maintaining cultural traditions. Vodica Svetog Ilije complements these themes as a cultural monument; it was designated as such in 1998.

Churches and Architectural History

The churches represent different architectural styles. The Hram Svetog proroka Ilije is a monumental neoclassical building dating from 1828. Construction of the Roman Catholic branch church “Rimokatolička filijalna crkva Presvetog Trojstva” began on 11 July 1908. These dates mark different milestones: 1828 is the year the neoclassical church was built, while 11 July 1908 marks the start of construction of the branch church. The Hram Pokrova Presvete Bogorodice offers another architectural perspective. Built in the Byzantine-Moravian style, it has a marble and granite floor featuring a replica of the Hilandar star. Here, the focus is not only on the architectural style but also on the materials and a specific decorative detail. The former savings bank building of the large landowner Nikola Petrović broadens the picture beyond religious buildings: it is an example of early 20th-century civic architecture. Its former use as a savings bank sets it apart from the churches.

A Natural Monument Near Stara Pazova

The white poplar “Bela topola kod Stare Pazove” is located near Stara Pazova, stands about 35 metres tall and has been protected as a botanical natural monument since 1983. The height provides a sense of its size, while its protected status identifies the tree as a natural monument. This single protected tree adds a different kind of destination to the cultural and architectural attractions of the area.

Getting There and Finding Accommodation

Stara Pazova railway station is about two kilometres from the centre of the settlement of the same name. At municipal level, the international EuroVelo 6 cycle route passes through Novi Banovci, Kablar, Stari Banovci, Belegiš and Surduk. The station and cycle route therefore refer to different locations: the distance to the station is measured from the centre of Stara Pazova, while the route passes through several places in the municipality.
