Karađorđev Grad and the Mosaics
Karađorđev Grad was built between 1811 and 1813 by Karađorđe Petrović, leader of the First Serbian Uprising. The surviving complex includes a restored konak with a tower, a church with a bell tower and an old school. The konak houses a permanent exhibition of Karađorđe’s personal belongings and weapons from the First Serbian Uprising, including the original “Aberdar” cannon. The Church of Saint George and the Mausoleum of the Karađorđević Royal Family were built between 1910 and 1930 to designs by architect Kosta J. Jovanović in the Serbo-Byzantine style. Its 725 mosaic compositions are based on frescoes from more than 60 medieval monasteries and churches in Serbia and Macedonia. Topola therefore brings together the architectural history of the early 19th century and a major mosaic ensemble from the early 20th century.

Kraljevska vinarija preserves around 280 bottles dating from the time when Serbian kings cultivated grapes and produced wine in Topola. The Oplenac Wine Route, also called the Šumadija Wine Route, is a tourism product of the Municipality of Topola. Another wine destination is Vinarija PIK Oplenac, located in Topola on the sunny slopes of Oplenac. It continues a winemaking tradition that dates back more than 60 years. Events and Routes
Oplenačka Berba has been held every year since 1962 on the second weekend of October in Topola. Its route passes through the centre via Vinski Trg and Vinska Ulica, continuing to Karađorđev Grad and Oplenac. Check the specific event dates for the year in question. The Petrovdanski Vašar and the “Dani Zorana Jovanovića” concert are also held every year in Topola on 12 July.
For sporting events, the route lengths and elevation gains vary considerably: the Oplenac Trail Race 21K covers 21 kilometres with a total ascent of 500 metres, passing through the forests of Oplenac to the Jasenica and on to the royal vineyards. The Oplenačkih 5K route is five kilometres long, has 120 metres of ascent and follows paths on Oplenac; it serves both as a race course and as a walk for pleasure. The 11th International DuoDrama Festival is a past cultural event: it took place from 1 to 6 September 2024. The competition was open to professional theatres, theatre companies and independent theatre groups.
