Metikoš lies 550 metres north of Ćava. An 8 km loop trail leads to the summit, while a 55 km cycling route runs through Metikoš. These are different options: one focuses on Ćava, while the other is a longer route for cycling. If you decide on the focus of your trip first, you can compare the relevant route details more easily.

From the Summit of Ćava: Mountains, Valley and Kraljevo

Ćava is part of the Goč massif and lies on the border between the local communities of Metikoš and Ribnica. From the summit, you can see the mountains of Šumadija, Stolovi and Troglav, across the valley of the West Morava and as far as the city centre of Kraljevo. The mountains, river valley and city form different parts of the same view. If you would like to take in the wider landscape on a hike, that is a specific reason to visit the summit.

Hiking: Loop Trail and Access

The loop trail to the summit of Ćava is 8 km long, with 339 m of ascent. Distance and elevation gain answer different planning questions: the length describes the extent of the loop, while the ascent adds information about its elevation profile. This combination is more useful than distance alone when you want to assess the hike in advance.

The trail to the summit starts at the main Kraljevo–Brezna road. Check road and trail conditions locally before setting out.

Cycling Route through Metikoš

The Beranovac–Metikoš–Otroci–Goč (Selište)–Krst–Vrnjačka Banja cycling route passes through Metikoš. It is 55 km long, has 1,220 m of elevation gain, and runs on asphalt and gravel. For planning, consider all three key details together: the total distance, the ascent and the changing surfaces. The cycling tour therefore differs from the hike to the summit of Ćava not only in the mode of travel, but also in its length and surfaces. Conditions can change, so check the route before setting off.

Location and Springs

Metikoš lies along the Stančićki (Kračićki) stream and on the Laze plateau. Springs associated with the village include Bubanj, Vodice and Stančićki Izvor. Together with its location north of Ćava, the stream, plateau and springs provide specific details about the area’s geography. These details complement the view from the summit with a local perspective on Metikoš itself.

Historical Notes and Zavetina

Twelve households in Metikoš are recorded in 1818; in 1844, the village was described as a hamlet of Dragosinjci. These two dates provide a brief historical context for the village. The local tradition includes Zavetina, the village festival of Metikoš, held on the second day of the Holy Trinity. Ask locally whether the celebration takes place today.
