Explore Vladičin Han through different themes: the Iron Bridge over the South Morava, a temple with a documented history, and nature and sports activities. If you are looking for a hotel, consider the focus of your stay: cultural history, protected areas or leisure at the sports centre.
Cultural history at the bridge and temple
The Iron Bridge was built in 1910 by Serbian, Austrian and Italian engineers and workers. It connects the left and right banks of the South Morava and is a popular spot for tourist photos. Its history and the way it links the two riverbanks offer two concrete starting points for exploring the area.
In the town centre of Vladičin Han, in the area of Čučuljke, stands the Temple of Saint Prince Lazar and All Serbian Martyrs and New Martyrs. Its foundations were laid in 1997, and it was consecrated in 2001. The temple opened for worshippers and services in 2008. These dates mark different historical stages—from the start of construction and the consecration to the opening. Check the current service and visitor arrangements before your visit.
Protected nature: Kukavica and Jovačka Jezera
The strict nature reserve of Kukavica lies within the municipality of Vladičin Han, on Mount Kukavica. It is protected as a nationally significant, exceptional Category I protected area. The area includes an indigenous, naturally developed beech forest community with beeches around 140 years old. Check the protection status and access arrangements before travelling.
Jovačka Jezera offers a different kind of natural setting: this natural monument lies in the villages of Jovac and Ostrovica within the municipality and consists of a group of six landslide lakes with associated waterlogged areas. So far, 77 vascular plant species have been recorded in the lake area. Jovačka Jezera offers opportunities for ecotourism within the municipality. Check the protection status and access arrangements for this area before your visit as well.
Sports and event dates
The five-hectare Kunjak sports and recreation centre has a 25 × 50-metre Olympic-size swimming pool with a large slide. It adds a dedicated sports and recreation focus to the cultural and natural attractions.
The Vidovdanski dani 2026 programme ran from 24 to 28 June, with the main event taking place on 28 June. Venues included the Centre for Cultural Activities, Tourism and Library Services. Outdoor events at the Kunjak sports centre were also part of the programme. If you are planning a later trip, check the dates and venues in effect at that time.
