Pinosava lies on a slope at the foot of Avala and extends to the northwest. This means two distinct topics can inform your travel plans: the history of the village and the church in Pinosava, and the larger Avala landscape with its forests and trails. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Pinosava, distinguishing between these can help you choose where to go: are you mainly interested in the village’s history or in Avala’s natural environment?

Avala and the Landscape of Pinosava

The protected natural area of Avala covers part of Pinosava’s cadastral area. This portion accounts for 1.0 percent of the protected area’s total surface. The percentage therefore refers to the area of Avala, not to the share of Pinosava that falls within the protected area.

More than four-fifths of the protected area is forested. Deciduous trees predominate, with conifers found in some places; Avala is also home to many plant and animal species in Serbia. There are also several well-developed and marked excursion and hiking trails on Avala. Forests, habitats, and trails describe different aspects of this landscape.

The Church and History of the Village

Until the mid-16th century, Pinosava was known as Kolari; afterward, it was called Pinosava. The Church of the Holy Apostle Mark stands in the courtyard of the old school, which was built in 1907 through the voluntary work of the villagers. The church and the school thus bring together two local historical connections in one place.

The old bell tower of Pinosava was built in 1925 and restored in 2024. Regular services have been held at the Church of St. Mark since the first liturgy in 2005. The church is open daily from 08:00 to 18:00; check the opening hours again before your visit.

A Litija procession takes place on the first Thursday after the Feast of the Holy Trinity. Because its date is tied to this feast, it does not fall on the same calendar date every year. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the date in advance.

Another dated event was the fourth edition of the folklore festival “Markovdanski Susreti”: Pinosava hosted it on May 9, 2026. The procession follows a movable date in the church calendar; the festival took place on the date stated. Both offer different chronological reference points for the village’s cultural history.

Getting There by Public Transport

Plan your journey in two stages: From Slavija, take bus 33 or trams 9, 10, or 14 to Trošarina, then take one of bus lines 400, 401, 402, 403, 405, 407, or 408 to Pinosava. Routes and numbers may change, so check the current timetable and routes before departure.
