Turia offers several points of interest for an exploratory trip: a Reformed church ensemble in the town center, mineral water sites with distinctive features, and the ruins of Bálványos Fortress, 10 km from the town. These places differ not only in subject but also in how they can be reached. When planning a stay, you can first consider whether architectural history, mineral water, or the archaeologically dated fortress site is your main interest.

Church, Enclosure Wall and Bell Tower

The Reformed church ensemble is in the center of Turia, on the right side of the Turia stream. It comprises three parts: the church, an enclosure wall, and a bell tower. The ensemble therefore draws attention not only to the church building but also to the other two parts of the complex.

The church dates from the 16th century and was rebuilt in the 19th century. Its construction history can thus be placed in two clearly distinct periods. For travelers interested in historic architecture, the ensemble offers a specific point of reference in the heart of the town: its location by the stream identifies its setting, while the wall and bell tower extend the view beyond the building itself. The documented construction phases refer to the church; they should not automatically be attributed to the other parts of the ensemble.

Mineral Water at Băile Csiszár and Baia Fetelor Apor

Băile Csiszár has several cold mineral-water pools. They differ in both size and chemical composition. There is also a dry mofette, bathing tubs with warm water, and a sauna. This combination makes the site a distinct point of interest alongside the church ensemble. Before traveling, check locally whether the listed facilities are available; access conditions may also vary.

Access to Băile Csiszár starts at the parking lot by Pension Cetate (Vár). From there, a forest path leads from the main road to the pools in a ten-minute walk. The directions thus give both a specific starting point and a walking time. Include the walk in your visit plans, and allow for the possibility that trail conditions may change.

At Baia Fetelor Apor, mineral waters with different chemical compositions and pH values emerge at the surface within a limited area. The site is in the Ciomad-Balvanyoș Natura 2000 protected area. Baia Fetelor Apor can be reached from Balvanyos Resort in a few minutes on foot through the forest; local conditions may vary here too.

The two access routes should not be confused: the stated starting point for Băile Csiszár is the parking lot by Pension Cetate (Vár), while for Baia Fetelor Apor it is Balvanyos Resort. The time estimates also differ: ten minutes on foot for Băile Csiszár and a few minutes for Baia Fetelor Apor. These details help you plan the routes separately rather than combining them into a single route.

The Ruins of Bálványos Fortress

The ruins of Bálványos Fortress lie 10 km from the town of Turia, on a rocky outcrop with steep slopes. Archaeologists believe that the fortress was built in the 11th or 12th century. This is an archaeological estimate, unlike the clearly stated construction phases of the Reformed church: the church dates from the 16th century and was rebuilt in the 19th century.

The fortress adds another point of reference in time and place. Unlike the church ensemble in the center, it lies outside the town, 10 km away. The rocky outcrop and steep slopes describe the location of the ruins, while the estimated construction period shapes their historical context. When choosing Turia’s sights, you can therefore distinguish between a site in the town center and a ruin complex outside the town with a much earlier estimated date.

Turia brings together several different interests, though not all the destinations offer the same experience: the church ensemble represents architectural history in the town center, the two mineral water sites differ in their water characteristics and access routes, and Bálványos adds a fortress ruin with an archaeologically estimated date of origin.
