Dalnic preserves its history in different forms: in a Reformed church with building phases from the 13th to the 19th century, in two Dózsa György memorials, and in the plant collection of the Beczásy Garden. In summer 2026, an underwater photography exhibition featuring images of churches was also held. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing these historical and botanical themes from the exhibition, which took place on specific dates; this makes it possible to tailor your stay to cultural history, remembrance and gardens.

The Reformed Church and Its Inscriptions

The Reformed church complex includes a medieval church with building phases dating from the 13th century, a renovation in 1526, and work from the 19th century. The stone Reformed church is said to have been built in the second half of the 13th century. Taken together, this information points to several construction phases rather than a single building date. For travellers interested in architectural history, this sequence is particularly revealing: the building cannot be assigned to just one period.

After earthquake debris was removed, two inscriptions were discovered in the church: one in runic script and another in Latin using Gothic script; they date from the 15th and 16th centuries. Alongside the architecture, the different scripts introduce a second theme: the history of writing and culture. Thus, in addition to the sequence of building work, the inscriptions offer a second timeline.

In August 2026, visitor information stated that groups could visit the Reformed church outside regular opening hours by prior arrangement. If a group visit is of interest to you, check current arrangements and agree on a date in advance.

Memorial Sites for Dózsa György

A monumental statue of Dózsa György, created by Szobotka András in 1976, stands in the centre of Dalnic. A memorial plaque to Dózsa György was also erected in Dalnic in 1949. The dates mark two moments in local remembrance: the plaque is older, and the statue was added 27 years later. Alongside the medieval architectural and written history, this adds a more recent layer of commemorative culture.

Arboretum in the Beczásy Garden

The arboretum in the Beczásy Garden includes Ginkgo biloba, the Arizona spruce (Picea engelmannii), the Japanese magnolia (Magnolia kobus) and Acer hyrcanum, a maple species that is very rare in the region. The scientific names clearly identify the examples mentioned; the regional rarity of Acer hyrcanum highlights a specific botanical feature. In this way, the garden adds its own distinctive element alongside Dalnic’s architectural and memorial sites.

The Underwater Gallery in Summer 2026

The second underwater photography exhibition, organised in collaboration between My Lake and Visit Covasna, opened at the diving lake in Dalnic on 17 July 2026. The underwater gallery displayed ten photographs of representative churches in Covasna County at a depth of about three metres. Visits were possible from 18 July to 31 August 2026 by prior appointment. The contrast with the Reformed church lies in the format: the gallery presented churches in photographs, while building phases and inscriptions shape the history of the church in Dalnic.
