Sfântu Gheorghe offers cultural history in its buildings and museum sites, as well as green spaces for walks or running. The places and activities have different focuses without prescribing a fixed itinerary.

Architectural history and historic houses

The building complex of the Muzeul Național Secuiesc was built between 1911 and 1913 and is associated with the architect Károly Kós. The construction period and the connection to the architect provide two concrete points of reference for the city’s architectural history. The Casa cu Arcade marks an earlier period: it was built between 1818 and 1822 in the Classical style as the headquarters of the command of the Székely Hussar Regiment. From 1958 to 2002, the building housed the Covasna County State Archives. This makes it possible to distinguish chronologically between its original institutional use and its later history as an archive.

The Colecția Publică Cinegetică a Ținutului Secuiesc is also associated with a historic building: it is housed in the Casa Bene, a historic monument in the city. The Prima Școală Românească is documented in written records dating back to 1799. The museum site comprises four rooms: a classroom, an anteroom, a library and the teacher’s quarters. A park and a lake for time outdoors

Zilele Sfântu Gheorghe includes a craft market with more than 200 exhibitors. The Galopiada Secuiască is held on Pivniţele Mari Hill, where it revives equestrian traditions.
